I removed the mounting strip for the awning from the old camper, put it on the garage for test purposes. Then put the awning on, .... it appears to be in very good condition

now I just need to figure out how to mount it to the trailer.:bananatool:

FINALLY took the top off after “test fitting” over the roll cage years ago, did some truck things, and it got its annual oil change. Punching in a heavier weight class now.

Saturday, spent all day changing out the starter on the 54 M38A1. Top bolt on the starter is almost impossible to get to.
Had to use a wrench and was able to turn it just a little at a time. Installed the rubber grommets for the battery leads while I was in there. Had to use a ratchet strap to keep the starting lever out of the way. Success. The engine now turns over, but wouldn't start. Need to troubleshoot the ignition system now. Ah, the joys of sorting out one problem after another. Gave up on the 54 for the day and took the 64 for a ride. A young soldier stopped me and wanted to know about the Jeep. He took some pictures. He loved seeing the old Jeep being familiar with the Hummer. This thing always draws a crowd. I enjoy talking about the Jeeps. So much fun to drive.

I've got a 24V test adapter kit. Time to get out the manual, study it, and check for spark. Need to order the parts to rebuild the starter. (When it gets a little cooler!). After these are sorted, ... back on the 64 CJ5 long term project. Owning vintage Jeeps means having a lot of tools. Hoping after April, I'll have more time for keeping these running since I'm going to retire.

I enjoyed getting time to work on the Jeeps, but it did beat me up a bit.

Picked up some damage from last weekend's wheeling trip.

Bent both rear spring center pins (thanks to itlksez for pointing that out), bent the tie rod, cracked the frame, lost a transmission mount bolt, and a few anti squeak pads fell out of the spring packs. There could be more but I didn't immediately notice anything. I have to do some welding on the FR wheel. It has a pretty good leak from a couple of spokes and won't hold air for any reasonable amount of time.

Here is one of the center pins. The spring pack started to separate and I could swing the leaves around left to right. If you look at it in person the top is bent in one direction and the bottom is bent in the opposite direction.

The tie rod rubs the diff cover now and it limits turning some. I'll be going to heims since the tie rod end rubber already fell off.

I should've just drilled each end of the crack but it probably goes on behind the body mount. The frame has been mended before and I welded up a few cracks while I had it torn down. All better and ready for another beating.

Worked on the FR wheel. All the wheels are like this. It's a wonder any of them hold air at all. It's leaking around the bead too. :( I guess it's not too bad considering they're 50 years old.

I ended up just stick welding this garbage. It's been a few months since trying to stick weld so I went ahead and tried it out with the Omnipro 220. I made a crater even with just enough amperage to keep the arc going. Guess the wheel was thin there.

Finished mowing the yard and drove the Jeep to cool off.

Any excuse to drive the Jeep.

Jeep got caught in the rain last night before I ran out and threw a tarp on it. So?… it needed to air out today.

I took the 6yr old puppy to the vet (he wasn't as thrilled as most dogs seen here) the dog mostly just stretched across the rear seat and kept asking about doggy cones at dairy queen, the jeep always get hung up on the speed bumps there so we went back home without any doggy cones.

And now I enjoy to have a good working CJ5... It's nice to push the start button (yes I wanted this instead of the key system) and go...

Put my old jets back in the carb and turned the screws back in to about they were before adjusting for Colorado altitude. Gotta get the timing light out and vacuum gauge and fire the thing up and set everything. Maybe later this week. Lots of rain in the forecast but we'll see how THAT pans out.

Started beating my fender back into shape. Got stumped so I walked away. It's got a weird twist in it that I have to think about.

Well I didn't get to do much with my Jeep this weekend but I got to hang out with a few older ones, and drove my brothers 44 a bit.

Wife had off today, and it was abnormally cool and moist this morning, so I headed up into the hills with the jeep for a load of wood.
