Today I ordered HEI spark plug wires, set the gap on the spark plugs to .045, and installed my freshly rebuilt carburetor. Things are getting pretty darn close to vroom! So excited!

Got another project. I'll be working on this for someone though. They have high expectations like wanting to drive it before the summer is over. It sat for 20 (or so) years outdoors. I managed to get the 3b from bare frame to driving in 6 months but I spent many hours without sleep. It might be possible but we'll see.
Something you don't see every day is the tire/wheel combo.

The first order of business is to get that fhead on a stand and inspect it. It'll probably need everything like the CJ5 but we'll see.

Would ya just look at it.

I think I got carried away with the diamond plate. But what the heck, the Land Rover Axles and springs should be able to handle the extra weight + the Ford 302 up front.
Corner pieces are 1/4 round sections of 6" well casing.
I'm adding 5 extra inches of wheel base to the rear so I moved the wheel arches back with more diamond plate and added rocker guards and step so this old guy and his wife can get in and out.
Fender Flares are stock CJ7 and width came out to 66" which is exactly what the Land Rover axle is outside wheel to wheel

Prepped my brother's CJ7 for and laid down Raptor Liner in the interior of the tub. I wasn't a fan, I was wanting to just touch up with color matched rattle can but it also doesn't look horrible either.

This was after the first coat. I came back an hour later and put down another coat.

Turns out the Honda isn't off road worthy. The sidewalls blew out on two tires, the alternator belt broke, but I managed to limp it halfway back. I'll be giving it to a friend now.

Here is where I started. I was alone so to keep the wheels straightish, I ran the seatbelt through the steering wheel and buckled it.

Making some progress up this muddy hill. I needed someone on the brakes to keep the car from dragging me back down the hill but since the car was an automatic I put it in reverse to help keep it from rolling forward. It took a few tugs to get this thing motivated enough to move uphill.

And it's out. Only took ~10 minutes. A kinetic rope would've been nice to have. Once there was a bit of momentum built up, it chugged along and drug the car out. Glad to have the 3b on the other side of a tow strap for once. :D

Here is the full length of the access road. One of the main reasons for wanting to grade the road is so when my buddy gets his towing service up and running he can use the road to come and go so he doesn't have to rut up the main driveway. It'll take a fair amount of work but it's doable. I think asphalt gravel will be used after the road is smoothed over. I was told about a free snow plow set up, so that'd save some time and money trying to build a blade.

-It’s turned darn hot here in Florida so I put the top on the Jeep. A bit of shade is great.
-The skinny pedal was bottoming out and wasn’t giving me full throttle. I made a wedge block to go under the pedal mount and it’s getting it now.
    -Installed a new steering dampener.
-Touched the timing and idle screw.

Real close to being ready for a summer full of adventure.

My license plate stayed bent as it was the lowest thing on the back of the Jeep.

So I bent up some sheet metal.

No light on it but it never did and the PoPo never bothered me before.

I replaced the rotor, coil, and ignition module. The rotor had a hole burned through it. It now runs terrible and is smoking like crazy again. I'll be picking up (5) 36x12.5x15 TSL's (very cheap) tomorrow, hopefully. Helping out a friend in need. Another friend is going to buy my Federals to put on his truck so this should work out alright. At this point, we're going for looks because there is no performance.

Started disassembly of the CJ5's Fhead. No way is this thing going to get by with just some rings, bearings, and gaskets/seals.

Before you do anything else to that block you need to clean up the area between the #2 and 3 exhaust valves and check for cracks.

I'm waiting for the go ahead before I do anything else. I'll tear it down, burn it, shot blast, and perform N.D.T. on the block/head. I do engine machine work daily. (y)

I pulled the valve cover to measure valve clearances. I’ve got a noisy valve at high rpms after a long climb. I just wanted to confirm it’s a valve, and not something deeper. #4 exhaust valve is .006” too tight. It’s a huge process to adjust it on this, so it’s gonna wait. The rest are close enough.

I can’t believe how clean this thing is inside for having ~227k on it.

edit: I was calling around trying to find a gasket for this locally. Finally found one in Spokane. Figured I’d check my stash before I make the drive and drop $20. Ha!!

I finished the last of the welding on the tub and then sanded through coats of Yellow, White, Red and original Green paint. Layered on a little Bondo where needed , sanded again and shot 2 quarts of Red Oxide Primer inside and out.
