I have a 68 cj5 w/T86-AA trans. and am having trouble putting the transfer case back together. Is there a correct way to do this? Do I put the output gear on after mounting the case to transmission. Thanks,Thomas. Help plz.

I am guessing you have a 4 cylinder jeep with small hole transfer case . yes the output gear goes on after you bolt up transfer case

Did you take this drive train apart for repairs or have you ever had it together?

The T-86AA was used with the large opening D-18 and you can put the transfer case on with the output gear in place.

also if you took the transfer case off the trans maybe some of the needle bearings in the trans fell out? my t-14 did that and had issues installing back together.
