I found this after putting 90% of our 1966 back together. I don’t remember pulling it off but it is painted similar to the dauntless color. IMG_1102.jpeg

Looks like the bravce for the front of the starter. A lot of replacement starters don't even have the needed stud for thet.

I see a tapped hole above the starter but no stud on the starter. Couldn’t find it in any pre tear down pics but I can’t see that spot because of the old headers. I’ll just throw it in the leftover box with the rest of the replaced parts. Thanks

Dauntless v6 passenger side exhaust manifold. 2 tubes coming out of manifold. 1 was plugged with small bolt, other is open. What are they for?

    Mine are plugged as well.

    May be for emissions?

A choke heater will be a blind hole, for making hot air to give the choke thermostat. No communication with the exhaust gas. Seems likely.

This attaches to the drivers side of the radiator grill. There is a screen between the flat surface and the grill. Is this a remnant of a heater or vent? IMG_6985.jpeg

Heater, although I believe after a certain date they were there even if you didn't order a heater.

Yes, this is for the fresh air intake for the heater box.

Any reason to put it back on, or should I make a panel to cover up the hole?

Are you running a factory heater? If so, do you want fresh air going into it, not engine oil perfumed air? If so, put it back. Otherwise, panel it off:

Just know that there is no mechanical need to plug it, it is just a stainless steel tube inserted through the manifold and exhaust gases circulates around the outside surfaces of the tube where it is inside of the cast iron manifold.
The exhaust gases do not pass through the inside of the tube.

This is correct for any ports in the exhaust manifolds. Any connection to the carburetor uses engine vacuum to draw hot air into the choke cover. If you have a carburetor connection, it should be closed off if you don't use the hot air choke.

I’ve been running mine unplugged without the attached hose for years with no issues. I still have the original factory heater that works. Only issue I’ve had personally is that during the summer it can let warm air into the cabin until I take the top off. But I usually have the top off in the summer so that’s never really an issue either for me.

but it does still heat up in the winter with the top on.

I have no heater, my thought was that if I cover the opening, there will be less air diverted into the drivers side of the engine compartment and therefore more air going through the radiator. Pics to come at some point.

I know this is a shock absorber! It is the rear drivers side shock from the jeep when I bought it. I googled the stamped numbers and nada.
