Oddfire cam grinds?

    I'm starting to gather some parts for freshening up my Dauntless 225. It already has an Offy 4bbl intake, small Carter, HEI dist and headers.
    Does anyone have a favorite aftermarket cam grind that wakes up the old Dauntless? Low and mid range torque are what I am looking for.

    Not much more to do than what you have already done..........Looking for a larger camshaft with more duration will have little effect on performance since the heads at the intake valves barely flow 140 cfm's. The cost to find even a little more Horsepower out of one of these motors is costly for very little gains. Things like Porting the cylinder heads , replacing the intake & exhaust valves to a larger size to increase flow and even raising the compression ratio will help but there is just not much bang for the buck!
    A cam like a Comp. 252H will get you a little more torque.

    Lower gears will also make them a little more snappy.

    The Comp 252 is what I use most of the time. On a rare time we have used the 260 in the past, but not recently.

    From what I understand the stock camshaft will provide the optimum torque from idle (650 rpm) to mid range (2400 rpm).
    I believe that it will be the optimum camshaft for low rpm use such as off road crawling.
    The 252 H camshaft has an increase duration which will only help out in the mid range efficiency.
    The 252 H should be optimum for normal Hi-way use.

    My current Dauntless build just got a stock camshaft installed.

    Yes - and I have not noticed any negative performance at low RPM vs a stock cam, in fact, I much prefer it wheeling and overall.

    A little Time capsule ,

    This is the Solid Lifter Camshaft that resided in my old CJ-5 with the 225 Oddfire Motor using an Offy 360 manifold & Holley 390 cfm 4-barrel w/ Head work that I built in the early 1970's. Plenty of power & torque both on & off road. It did take some time to get the little Holley 390 sorted out and we ended up with 2 Jet changes from sea level to 10,000 ft for optimum power.

    Upper right corner of the card has a code BV6-1.........Ed Iskenderian ground all of the Camshafts for Kenne-Bell the Buick V-6 Guru back in the day. I just checked the old KB Catalog and there is no mention of this grind but after meeting Jim Bell aka Kenne Bell years ago at Pomona and him knowing I had a relationship with Vic Hubbard and Iskenderian he gave me the code and Ed ground this cam for me under the Isky label. Smaller than others but a bit larger than stock on the list which would build more torque at a lower RPM.

    I'll have to dig up the card I have from the Kenne Bell cam I have and see how it compares. It was built for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, so not one I would recommend for a 'normal' rig ;)

    I would think the grind that Isky ground me compared to a more full throttle cam for climbing the peak would be night & day but who knows?..........Love to see that Chuck.
