11 Inch Brake Conversion Hose Question.

I have a stock 68 cj5 that I'm working on. The power steering installation is about done and I need to move on to the brakes. I have obtained a complete set of 11 inch brakes from a 73 cj5. I plan to replace cylinders, hardware, and shoes on all four corners. I do not plan on any lift.

My question is about the hoses for the front axle. I plan on not using the OEM "S" lines to the cylinders. What length hoses should I use? Also are there any other problems that may come up during the conversion? THX--Derral--

 

"S" tubes were used with 9" Bendix type brakes.
"Z" tubes were used with 10" Wagner brakes.
For post 1971 CJ's with 11" Bendix you don't use tube fittings because the hose connects direct to the wheel cylinder.
Hose connects to hose bracket on frame.
Hose length can vary, depending on spring lift if any.

 

Make sure you get the right hoses. One year had different size threads on one end vs. the other. Most have the same size at each end. I guessed and ordered the wrong ones when I did mine. Just check the hoses to be sure they match your wheel cylinders and the connection at the frame.

11" Drums/lines

 

Just did this to the front of mine. Ordered all from Rock Auto. $205 with shipping. Got everything for a '73. The hoses were Raybestos BH16179. Think they were 18"Issue I had was the flare was 1/4" and needed 3/16".Tube adapters from AuroZone fixed that. Mine has a 4" lift and the standard length hose is plenty good. I'm planning on a disk swap in the front in the future and will move the new 11"ers to the rear.

 

I got 18" hoses from NAPA local for like $12.00 each. Straight from the Wheel Cylinder to a bracket just ahead of the Bump stop on the frame. Since I have a 1956 frame and its all under a CJ-2A I had to make my own brackets but they are in the stock location I am told.
