I'm trying to replace all the 11"x2" brakes on my jeep and there is a little C-shaped clip that fell off when I removed the drum. I know where it goes but I doubt it should be coming off on me. How is it supposed to attach? I'm thinking I probably need to weld it on.

Its the clip in the right side of the pic about halfway up the pic. I think it limits the brakes from moving too far from the drum.

The clip has a square hole in it where it meets the backing plate and the backing plate has a raised square where the two meet

By c-clip you mean the little piece that holds the shoe against the backing plate on the right side. That has a nail with a notch to hold the right and left shoe?

If thats the case, do yourself a favor. Buy a new hardware kit for your drum brakes they sell that at flaps, if you havent already.

Nope not that clip. Your brakes look a little different but I have uploaded a new picture with the clip circled. It seems like it's made of some pretty thick metal. Im thinking it should not come off and there wasn't a hole for a pin to hold it in place

I looked through my brake pix last night, but nothing matched what you picture. I haven't seen that clip on any of my 9", 10" or 11" Jeep brakes.

I agree. The picture I posted, Is of my 10 inch self adjusting brakes off of a 66 cj5. My 11 inch off of a 74 cj5 have the newer style with a coil spring and nail to hold the shoe.

Can you get a closer picture of that clip? What did the brakes come off of? Im guessing a wagon/truck as i havent seen that before if there is no nail.

The brakes are off a 63 willy truck. I seem to have found the clip as part number 641997 Brake Shoe Hold Down Spring Clip Fits 46-64 Truck, Station Wagon, Jeepster. Someone on another forum tells me the clip just clips onto the square raised portion on the backing plate so question solved thanks guys. My new brake parts should arrive within the week and this new jeep should be driving down the road. Can't wait for the previous owner to deliver my new snow plow for it and the keys for this beast so I no longer have to hot wire it :)
