    Good Afternoon fellas,
I rebuilt my D18 a short time ago and afterwords I noticed that when backing up my Jeep kinda pulsed. It was fine going forward. When I had a minute, I took off the driveshaft and while on my back under my rig, I rotated the parking brake drum forwards and backwards. It spun forwards just fine but in reverse rotation it would go 3/4 turn and then hang up. I can force it around but in the same spot it sticks. I'd think that if it was out of round,it would do it both ways. I really didn't want to pull the drum and let out the the oil if I didn't have to but I may have to do that. Any thoughts?

The drum is probably round its the shoes that more than likely have a taper on one end from wear...........I assume these shoes were used and worn? One shoe gets tapered when its not adjusted properly and when you back up the shoe act's as a wedge and binds up against the drum.........Even if new they still need to be arched ..............an old process that was commonly used back when everyone had drum brakes and the existing drum Inside diameter did not match the outside diameter of the new installed shoes. The shoes were setup in the machine and the correct arch was cut in the new shoes..............Herm the overdrive guy is the only one I know that still has the ability to correct that.

To add to what Tarry99 said, sometimes the shoes get worn where the end of friction material gets "sharp". If this is the case take a file and put a chamfer on the end of the friction material on the shoe. This can keep it from catching on the drum.
Common procedure on cheaper brake shoes on drum brake systems.
