I agree, certainly not conclusive. The main thing I remember is the single lever design being inconvenient due to location versus the dual lever....

My bad, I meant the design of the handle. Seems it should curve back and up. Been years since I had one.
My only thought input on this is the t-case shifter which to me doesn't look right for a J-truck.

It must have a divider by the outlet and the upper tank would have to be full for it to have good flow, thus the overflow tank you mentioned.

That is an interesting point to make and I kinda wondered the same thing. You'd think the gravel would be loose enough to not provide that much...
If it just died and no sputter it does sound ignition related, bad connection as you seem to suspect. I feel your pain, it sucks chasing down...
I agree with checking fuel first. Rule that out as a problem before going further.
I guess just being careful with the throttle isn't an option?

They're playing it safe (in theory) because all of those years would be timing gear engines, but if someone had swapped in a timing chain...
Howard went through the oil pump scenario not long ago. I would either get the one he mentions, which of course matches what Summit racing says,...
The only thing I know of is the very early L-heads had timing chains, versus everything after that had gears. That difference = cam shafts turned...
To avoid confusion can't you just take your old one to him?
