After grappling with my 73 cj5s original heater set up all last winter and getting virtually no heat I decided that I want to put a modern replacement system in the jeep instead of using the original set up.

I have no idea where to start looking for a good replacement heater set up, but I know I want a modern replacement.

What can you guys recommend for a replacement heater.

    Thanks!

Check out the Summit heaters. Do a search on summit heaters here, lots of info.

Put one in the daughters '70 and it'll blow you out of the jeep with a soft top on 35* weather. Was so impressed I pulled out the '72-'75 heater I had in the '6 project and am putting one in it as well.

I put a Summit heater (made by Heatercraft IIRC) in my '67 and it'd heat up inside faster and hotter than any of my "modern" vehicles...

For a boneyard alternative, find a Chevy AstroVan, and yank out the rear cabin heater unit from the left rear quarterpanel. Comes complete with core and fan. You add 3-speed switch and ductwork. I put one one these in the '71, worked great.

I'm running a heater from a '74 Toyota p.u. because I had it laying around.

I'm another Heatercraft/Summit convert. Have yet to get it together yet, but I am confident!.

With the Heatercraft heater, I am removing the old heater. My plan is to still use the intake air box portion of the original heater so that I don't have a big gaping hole from the cowl to the cab. My plan was to run the drain hose as normal, and keep the vent flap closed.

No leaky core at all! My problem was that the blower motor never acted quite right, however after consulting the wiring diagram and taking apart bubbas previous wiring job I was able to get it to work again.
