I know a '59 CJ5 didn't have seatbelts originally but I want them in mine for obvious reasons. Since I am going with a total stock restoration, I would like for them to look like they belong there. Jeep is President Red and and the seats are red/grey two tone so I purchased some vintage looking red lap belts (non-retractable) with chrome lift latch buckles. I figured they looked as close to 1950's as I could get (or what they would have looked like if seat belts existed back then.)

So I would like some ideas for the best mounting locations. One concern is that my passengers will unbuckle and let it fly where the buckle will drop down and hit the body side and scuff my pretty paint. Any ideas or pictures of existing stock-like vintage seat belt mounting would be helpful.

Someone should reply with a photo of a mid 60s CJ with non-retractable OEM belts before long.
I have a 65 CJ6A with them, but I am out of town so I can't get you a photo for a few days.
Make sure the female buckles are on the inboard side, should reduce damage to paint.
My 76 CJ5 has retractors only on the male side and are outboard.

Mine are in the mail at this very moment from Sharon's Web. Here they are before I mailed them off. They've been there getting a full restore. Once I get them back, I'll be glad to take pictures to show you how/where they are mounted. Here is what they looked like before I sent them off for restoration. At this point I'm not too worried about my paint job since it's just a rattlecan od green, but I'm hoping to do it right some day.

Here is a picture of the center mounting location, it is about 6" back from the stepup.
The outside ones are just in front of the hat cannel brace.
Thay make some self retractors that you wind up in a plain belt, kind of looks like a hair roller.

x2. I had a 60/40 seat in my Tux and I kept the passenger side buckled because it was a pain to find when it went between the seats and I was careful with the driver side. If you have buckets you could lay a rubber mat or piece of one between the seats for the buckle end. The tab you just have to be careful. I know bad answer because it is not you but the passenger you worry about...

Here are the OEM belts mounted in my cj6. Do older tubs have the threaded hole for the seat belts?
