I'm trying to properly assemble my brake light switch to the brake pedal/MC pushrod.
There is nothing(that I can find) in the FSM or Parts catalog that shows them assembled.
Does anyone have a pic of them assembled correctly, which direction the nylon bushing faces, which side the nylon washer/spacer is on, which way the open hook of the switch faces, etc, etc.

I've searched and searched and have only come up with two pics of switches that are obviously not right and no responses showing how it should be.

I realize that you are doing a nice restoration and have put a lot of time, research and effort into it. I went a different way without concern for "correct" in my replacement parts.
The word I got was that the reproduction part that fits onto the pushrod has a history of failure in the newer manufactured part. There is a pressure switch that will fit the bottom of the MC and work with better dependability from NAPA and other stores.
The switch you are using just comes over the top of the push rod, open side down. I don't remember the rest and it wasn't working real well when I got the vehicle. It had been played with by another P.O.

    Thats a start.

It was seeming to me that the opening went on the pedal side facing up and the hole side would now slip over the pin followed by the cotter pin. That way you wouldn't have to remove the pushrod to remove the switch.

I'm also not clear exactly what the nylon bushing goes through or what the nylon washer separates. The bushing seems to take up the slack in the pushrod hole that seemed to me to be the slop that actuates the switch.

When I got my jeep the brake switch was on backwards which meant you had to push the pedal a lot before the brake lights came on. I changed it to the way it is now and that cured the problem. Also I did not have to remove the pushrod to do this. It slips on and the cotter pin keeps it from sliding off.

As for the bushing you are talking about, I couldn't see one on mine but that was probably just the angle. I will go out again at lunch and see if I can get another look.

That type switch is failure prone...it was used by ford for years and every ford tech replaced a lot of them. The pictures posted appear to be correct but if you can put a hydraulicly operated switch on the MC you will be happier with the results. Aside from not being oem correct that is. Just my 2 cents worth.

My brake lights won't go off now without monkeying with it. I suppose it's time to replace the part there in the picture.

I was wondering where you guys got your part from?

The hook was designed so that the rod end did not have to come off the pin. Could change one pretty fast when I worked as a mechanic. Picked up my switch at FLAPS, has not failed in ten years of use.

Thanks! I was having a hard time finding one like that on the internet. Everything I found either fit before or after the intermediates.

I just called autozone and they'll have it in tomorrow.

I have to put her on the highway this weekend and I'm scrambling to get it inspected and road worthy. You guys have saved me some time with your pics! Thanks allot! Much appreciated!!
