This may be a little too far fetched, but I was wondering if anybody has made or seen a tilt steering column swap that retained our original turn signal switch and in-dash ignition? I suppose its nothing that cant be done with a welder and some patch work.

I put a tilt column in my Jeepster and here is what I learned. Some of the 1960s Chevy cars had a tilt wheel and the ignition switch in the dash. They were kind of rare and you will probably have to outbid all the old Chevy people to get one. Some of the early Wagoneers had tilt also. They were rare too. Your best bet is probably the Ididit or Flaming River aftermarket columns. Unless you get lucky you will pay just as much for an old tilt column as the aftermarket ones. Is it just me or does Ididit look like Idiot when you first glance at it?

I guess no luck with getting one without the turn signals in it. I'm wondering how hard it would be to pull the ignition/turn signal assembly out of a junkyard column and weld in a couple patches and smooth it out and paint it. If it's aluminum then its a no go for me.

not so good the signal housing holds the guts for the tilt you could remove the switch and leave the housing just fill the hole left by the lever but itll still look different
