Do you have a fiberglass tub?

I have a 2 questions for anyone out there with a fiberglass tub on an intermediate frame.

How tall are the 4 main body mounts you used?

I set my tub on the frame to strap it down for the hurricane and I ended up using 3" wood blocks to make it clear the drivetrain. I was hoping to use the recommended 2" tall rubber mounting pucks but I don't think I will be able to drop the tranny enough to gain a full inch at the tunnel.

Did your fiberglass tub use the forward body mounts (the longer ones up by the spring hangers)?

Mine has no provisions to use them. I have found other people that just didn't use them and some that made brackets to use them.

    Thanks

    Bob

I have mine mocked up w/ two 1" spacers per mount and I can't completely fit my finger between the bellhousing and the tub so I agree with the 2.5" to 3" length.

My tub is from 4wd hardware and it also doesn't utilize the mounts in front of the footwells.

I have a 4wd Hardware body. 4wd sells a rubber tube that you cut to length, but cutting it is very difficult and it's hard to get straight mounts cut out of it. When I swapped out the Hurricane for the V6, I switched to using hockey pucks. IIRC, 4wd recommended against using poly or metal mounts, so rubber was the order of the day.

The fenders themselves mount to the grill which has a center support in the middle.

I have the 24" long rubber tube from 4wd hardware that I will be using for the mounts. I do not have a 4wd hardware tub but one of the people there said they usually recommend cutting the first 4 mounts (the second and third mounts on the frame) to 2 1/8" long for the tub they sell and most are similar. My grille is steel so I will probably use something other than rubber for the bulk of the mount with a thin rubber cushion. I will probably do something similar if I find there is some sort of bracket for those forward mounts by the firewall since there would be no fiberglass right on the mount.

I had a fiber tub from 4wd that did not use the front mounts - really dumb if you ask me...Why couldn't they just leverage the complete original design??? Anyhow what I did was have a guy I knew who was really good with fiberglass work make up some mounts using plywood, fiberglass, acetone, etc and fiberglassing them to the tub. Worked awesome. If you don't use the front two mounts I have heard that you could possibly get a little bit of a body tweak when you depress the clutch. But I do not know for sure. I do know that the factory put them there for a reason...

I have a 4WD body that I installed about 1986 and it did not have any provisions for using the front frame bracket mounts. I noticed that the more recent versions have these mounts built onto the tubs and are kevlar re-enforced. I made my own versions by making a glass box set-up for both front mounts. Without these mounts in place, the front body weight is carried by the mounts by the driver and passenger's feet and causes the floor to hump up in those areas.

Sterclan - Who made your tub? Mine has brackets that attach the front of the tub to the frame. But I don't know who made my tub......

Here is the bracket, set like it would be attached to the frame mount. Right now it is sitting on a tape measure.

dont know who made it it was on the jeep when i got it. mine are more like a plate on the bottom with uprights to the firewall .they bolt to the floor by your feet and have 2 3 inch straps
/flat bars to the firewall. the plate at the bottom is like 24x18 or something like that, large enough to tie the front cage hoop too
