I bought and am rebuilding a 71 CJ5. it has a V6 225 t14 and dana 18. It came with a Warn OD attached but was not active. There was no linkage or shifter attached. Is This something that I want to keep, or remove?

I am not building a massive rock crawler or a highway every day Jeep, just a toy to take on the mountain fire roads and such so I don't know if a overdrive is needed.

An overdrive is a sought after thing. If yours is in good shape you may consider keeping it. You don't have to be a rock crawler or mall cruiser to enjoy the benefits. One of the cool things is you can split gears with it to find the best gear for the needs at the time. Sometimes one gear is too tall and the next is too low. So you put the trans in the lower gear and shift in the overdrive to "split" the transmission gears. They are sought after so if this is not appealing put it up for sale in our Classifieds section.

If you do decide to sell it, be aware you will need a replacement output gear, washer and nut for your T14, and it has to be a 10 spline. Also you will need a sheet metal cover and gasket to seal the hole.
Make sure any prospective buyer knows this is a 10 spline OD, fits only a T14. I think these are a little harder to find than the 6 spline versions.

My advice: Keep it! Call Herm the Overdrive guy for a shifter linkage, it is simple.

If it was me I would start looking for the output gear and cover plate from the T-14 to D-20 (10 spline) just in case your OD comes un-raveled.
That gear is not rare but is not floating around on everyone's shelf either. Yes keep you high dollar OD. You will love it when working.

x3, its one of those things that when you want it, it'll cost you. You can have the benefit of not needing it, and just not using it also.

I disagree...you should send it to me!

Seriously, though - KEEP IT! Think of the options in gearing both on and off-trail it gives you. It adds to the function and value of your Jeep. And, they're so damn cool to have. [This coming from a guy who doesn't have overdive but has been lusting for one for many many years.]

    :iagree:

    Get the linkage from Herm.

If you have any overdrive issues, you can also contact Bucky at O+R in Bloomington. They are local to us in Southern California, and he can look it over for you. He inspected mine, and converted my 10 spline overdrive to the more common 6 spline overdrive when I did my sm420 swap.

I found someone that has a front output PTO that they don't need and are willing to sell but I had to replace it with the proper parts as mentioned above. I found it cheaper and easier to buy a whole transmission and transfer case than to buy the parts individually!

    FWIW.
