    Happy Sunday everyone...

ACME fiberglass tops were meant for 76-on CJs correct? I bought a '75 CJ-5 that came with an ACME fiberglass top. The fit doesn't quite look right, but it is pretty close even still. To me it seems a bit too long in the rear, and that it is pulling the windshield back to make it work. Also.. I am unsure if there were brackets for the side of the windshield to close up the gap... Let me know what you think.

Looks like the right top to me. I have not owned an Acme, but the differences from '76-on are much greater than what you see here.

If you scoot the whole top forward to fix the overhang in the rear, that will push the top of the windshield forward and the angle of the door and windshield will more closely match. Seems to me that the installer let the windshield angle control the placement of the top on the body ... no experience with these, but it seems like this would be the wrong approach. The angle of the windshield varies depending on the condition of the windshield-to-cowl seal; I would have replaced or shimmed-up the seal to get the angles to match.

<edit> Looking at the left door picture more closely, I suspect that the installer simply did as well as he could with the mismatched angles. The steel cabs fit more accurately, but I suspect a fiberglass cab would be a little more difficult to get dimensions exact. Plus if it were installed on a Jeep that had been in service for a while, It could be more difficult to get the alignment right.

I looked under the top on the back edge of the jeep and found two footman loops, screwed into the tub, likely for a bikini top. I think that is what is keeping it from sliding forward.

the overhang on the rear is typical ACME. i have had a half dozen in my years. best i can come up with is they did it that way to acommodate the jeeps with tailgates. ACME made tops for both early (like yours) and late 76-83 cj5's. looks like a nice top. do you have any more photos?

I have one of those acme tops on my 74cj5 now. here is a link to my photobucket account where I had fitment issues and such. As for the problem you are having with the gap in the doors, I have a piece of angle iron on each side that came with the soft top I had on there before. This allows the seal on the door to rest against the angle iron and seal. it works suprisingly well. Are your latches similar to mine in the photo?
