Center hole for fan

    Have you seen any differences in the center hole for fans? I always thought fans were all the same. My late husband had the fan (as well as other things) on his Tuxedo Park chromed. The chrome was not as good of quality as other parts he had done and was getting pitted. We bought another chrome fan on eBay some years back. When the person that's helping me tried to install it, the center hole was too small. Could it be for some other vehicle and someone sold it as this or would there be any differences? Would there be a difference between L-head and F-head. I've already discovered that carbs are different.

    Not sure about fan differences on the 134's-thought they were all the same. I know Chevy's can be either 5/8 or 3/4. Will check the L and F heads down in the shop today.

    Is it close ? Might be just a buildup of crome or powercoat reducing the diaameter of the hole just enough to cause a problem.

    Beth, the same pump will bolt to both blocks and both are 0.625" shaft. Only difference is F head pump has an extra port for the line to the head.

    Well, it couldn't be put on at all. Maybe we bought on eBay for a 134 and the seller was wrong. Can't imagine why. But then I was also shocked that the Solex carb wouldn't fit either. I'm starting to wonder about all the parts I've shelved. Thanks for the info.

    Post a picture of the fan and the carb. If it is a Willys Jeep fan it should fit, I agree with LarryD that it is probably a buildup of chrome making the hole smaller.

    It would be worthwhile to measure the hub and fan hole to see whether you're in the range of the plating thickness. The digital calipers from Harbor Freight are great for jobs like this - the batteries that come with them seem to poop out right away, but you can buy a blister pack of 10 through Amazon for a few dollars. If you're missing by a few thou, I'd just clean up the hub with some emery cloth and lightly grind the plating out of the fan hole.

    I have one of those digital calipers that I bought to use on kart pistons. I'll check it out and post my findings here. I don't have the Jeep here to check it. I'll post pics. Will probably be the weekend. I'm really booked up this week.
