Got my new MSD 6a yesterday. It's bigger than I thought. Where do most folks mount these in the CJ, bearing in mind engine heat, moisture, shock, etc.

Anyone feel a need to mount these with rubber shock feet too?

that's wunna them bewick engines aint it?

Nice setup. Looks like you have a nice little tray for it...with rubber feet mounted as well. Unfortunately I don't think that side won't work for me due to the master cylinder and wiring harness coming out there.

FYI, the new 6201 model that displaced the 6200 is a shorter brick, but it looks like they made up for it in width and length.

I was thinking mounting vertically on the passenger side fender on the battery side, but it kinda feels like it would be exposed to damage from wheeling at that location.

Yeah, I knew my installation probably wouldn't be applicable, but I posted anyway.:)

Mounted my 6A to the pass. side fire wall. IIRC I used small rubber grommets under the feet. Never gave me any trouble.

Definitely mount it with rubber feet, grommets, ssomething to lessen the vibrations. MSD units are very well built but are electronic devices. Inside the cab or a solid surface under hood works fine. Keep it away from exhaust manifolds/headers and moving parts. Might look at your local hardware stores for rubber insulators as well. Make sure there is some air surrounding it so it can shed heat.

The flatty doesn't have a glove box or heater, so I mounted it up under the dash on the passenger side where it is out of sight. That way it's pretty well protected from mud & water, yet the wires aren't excessively long.

The ACE near my house has a nice selection of rubber grommets or insulators that should work well.

I mounted mine on the passenger side fender well. No problems with mud or water for me.
