    I will be enjoying this build. Sounds like you will be restoring versus making it a biofuel vehicle.

    Ryan, I believe the only things I'll change are upgrading the brakes to 11" and a dual master cylinder. I'm planning on getting this as close to a restoration as possible, however want to improve safety and functionality as well.

    I can make/run bio diesel but I want to get it running very well on diesel before I go down that road. I won't have to make any changes running bio diesel but would if running SVO.

    I'm also considering building a custom dual Optimas mounted on the firewall mounted vertically with the posts pointed to the front. It gets very cold here and need very reliable batteries. If I do this, I'd delete the battery pedastal on the frame which i can always put back. What do you guys think? I'd appraciate any input.

    Here is a picture if the original battery configuation.

    The humidity is low today, so I primed the motor. I kicked the animals out of the barn to heep the dust to a minumum.

    It took several hours to scrape, wire wheel and degrease this old motor. All the leaks came from oil and fuel lines. I'm going to wait to paint it until the primer cures. That may take a few days. I have already cleaned up most of the trim and it's ready to bolt on. New gaskets are in hand.

    [IMG]

    The front and rear main seals appear to have not leaked in the past, but I received the motor dry. Hopefully the seals haven't dried up during storage. I'm going to keep working on cleaning and painting other components today.

    It was a perfect time to paint the motor with the humidity being so low.

    I'm going to work on getting more of the trim installed.

    It's going to take some time to get all the fuel lines cleaned up and painted. I also need to ream them out to assure absolute cleanliness. Black would look sweet but it would be difficult to detect fuel leaks with that color. I decided on gloss grey for those parts. Stay tuned!

    You can see from the pic below that my working conditions are less than ideal. I have worked under worse conditions. We have a small goat dairy where we raise and milk Alpines and Nubians There is a lot of activity in the barn. I would do this beneath the barn, but it's always very humid and our pigs live there!

    I really like the direction of your build. Upgrading brakes is the best mod I ever did on my jeep. Looks like you pay alot of attention to detail, a double bat tray or leaving it the way it is looks good in my book.

    Good looking build. I love to read about these diesels. Never actually had the good fortune to see one first hand. Looks like you have a spectator in the barn there too!

    I have been quite busy with my day job the past few days so not much progress. Here is where I stand;

    [IMG]

    I now have a new found respect for diesel mechanics. It may not look so, but it takes some time to get the fuel lines set up properly. I still need to bolt down the injectors I'm sure having them loose helped to install the fuel lines. I'll connect the fuel leak offs from the injectors and plumb them back to the secondary fuel filter once the injectors are bolted into place.

    Here is some detail of the connections on the injector pump and part of the throttle linkage

    On the batteries, what about just one bigger battery on a bigger tray. Really whatever gives the most cranking amps and fits.

    That's sound advice. I would have to decide if I'd utilize the pedistal or mount on the firewall. I'm leaning towards the firewall.

    If you don't mind can you educate me a little on the Perkins engine used in the jeep. What's the HP rating and what MF tractor used the engine. My dad's uncle has a model 65 and 165 with 4 cylinder Perkins, same engine?

    Sure, sorry I haven't done that earlier.

    It's a Perkins 4.192 four cylinder, 192 inĀ³ (3.1 L) indirect injection diesel engine. Used in the MF 65 mk.1 tractor. It makes 62 brake HP at 3000 rpm, and 143Ftlb at 1350 RPM. It was produced from 1958 until 1972.

    The block, head, fuel system timing would be the same as the motors produced for the MK 65 but there were several parts produced specifically for Kaiser....such as the bell housing, motor mounts, thermostat housing and throttle linkage.

    Here is a link to a Perkins sales flyer;
    http://www.annatefka.com/perkins/folders/perk_4192_01_01.html

    I was stunned to see how few CJ-6 jeeps were equipped with this motor. Apparently, most of them were purchased by the government (US Forest Service).

    Here are the production numbers

    1961 CJ6 Diesel serial 57758-10001 thru 10028 for a yearly total of 28
    1962 CJ6 Diesel serial 57758-10029 thru 10129 for a yearly total of 101
    1963 CJ6 Diesel serial 57758-10130 thru 10213 for a yearly total of 84
    Total Production 213 units

    I heard that mine was owned by the CT DOT but I'm unsure how it landed in Vermont with a cracked block. I'd love to get some more history on it.

    Hey thanks Bill.

    I'm having a great time doing this build. My girl is actually being very supportive and can't wait to cruise. This was not the case with my first build 12 years ago: My ex gave me continuous s**t and made the project much less fun. I just wish I had a garage to work in (at least I have the barn).

    Thanks to everyone for the encouragement!
