I've been on this forum for a while and have gotten a ton of good advice and help, so I figured it was time I shared with everyone what i'm working on. I bought this Jeep on eBay while still deployed to Afghanistan (USAF). Looking back I wish I would have waited and shopped around a litte more, I got so anxious about coming home I rushed into a purchase. But since I cant go back, I'm happy with what I have. Its a 1975 CJ5 with a 258, T-14 3 speed, and of couse a Dana 20 T-case. I've had it two years and I’m not where I would like to be, but getting there. Going for stock looking but capable off-road rig.

    What I've done so far-

    Rebuilt Engine
    Weber Carb
    Headers
    Removed emissions equipment
    HEI distributor
    Overhauled Transmission
    New clutch
    New U Joints
    Seal kit on Dana 20
Cut and welded in 1/8 tube stock to replace rusted factory floor supports
    Some bondo work
    Lots of electrical repair
New shackles with 2”(I think) lift

Right now my goal is to get her road worthy so I can properly break the rebuilt motor in and be able to move It around easily. I am changing jobs in the Air Force and will have to store her for 6+ months in September while I’m in training. Then after training I have to move to Georgia, I’m putting off the body work until I get settled there.

    Projects in the works-
    Power Steering conversion
    Repair body rust
    OD Green Paint Job
    Install my 9.5 TI winch

nice project i'll follow this one for sure!!! i'va got the same years as you but with a 360 in it :) dont be afraid to ask question we all been trought that while rebuilting our jeep.

If you're thinking about little offroading, you should think about a front disq break conversion because drum realy doesn't like mud or water. It's pretty easy to do and its has been covered a lot a time on the forum :)

I love the dishwasher pics. even i have not tried that one yet. I have baked paint in the oven, washed parts in the bathtub, stored over half the jeep in the guest room and because of the fact refused to to let someone sleep in there for fear of scratching paint on the hood and other parts, and used the kitchen table to wire the dash. the jeep looks good and good luck with the rebuild.

Nice Jeep! Good luck on the resto.

Just curious - is that color the stock Medium Blue Metallic? I think the paint code for it is "452" and can be found on the VIN tag on the driver's side firewall.

First off,,,,,,, thank you for your service to our country. We appreciate your sacrifice and commitment, it does not go with out recognition to the majority of Americans.

Looks like a great project. I am in the finishing throws of a frame up restore of a 74, with the same drive train as yours. Take your time and have fun.
    Good luck

Thank you for service as well. Really, when looking at an Intermediate, no matter what you get it's a project, unless you want to drop some big $$$ right off the bat...and then....maybe. :) FYI....they never really are finished...always something stewing in the mind on a way to improve them. You're doing a great job and nice rig! Keep it up!

Sent this one as forwarded to my wife... (four star General type person one each)... all the ol Master Gunnery Sgt. received were lowered glaring Blue eye's that would have stuck awe and fear in anyone... amazing the power a small blonde can amass?

All the best with your build.. ;o)

Thank you, Ill be at Moody AFB in Valdosta.

My fiancee currently lives in NC, shes finishing up her degree, and I live in LA so that's how I can get away such things lol. The first load of dishes I did after this all had a sweet grease film all over them, but after rewashing them everything was good.

I believe it is the stock color the paint code matches, but I doubt it is the factory paint job because there is over-spray on everything.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Ill be sure to post more pics as I progress.

I don't care who you are, that's funny. Parts in the dishwasher, gotta love gov't housing. Just don't put them in the dryer with the kids asleep. From one vet to another; Thank you, sir.
