At 114,333.3 miles, the speedometer in my 82 Scrambler gave up the ghost. The odometer worked, but the speedometer didn't. So I ordered an Omix-Ada drop in replacement speedometer head. This is just the "guts" of the speedometer, the face, needle and odometer, but doesn't include the temp and fuel gauges or the housing. I have used separate external Auto Meter fuel and temp gauges for quite some time and got tired of looking at the non-functional gauges in the speedo cluster. So I covered the holes for them with some thin black vinyl that matches the speedo face pretty well. You can see it in the pics, but in real life it is barely discernable to the naked eye. I got the thin vinyl from an old school notebook and glued it to the speedo face. I polished the glass and the bezel with Meguiar's rubbing compound followed by their polishing compound. The bezel shined up nicely, I'm pretty sure these later model CJ bezels are stainless steel and not chrome, so keep that in mind if you're restoring an early CJ speedo. Here's a few pics, I think it turned out nicely.

I didn't take any "before" pics, but here's a pic from the interwebs showing the stock version with the gauges

I installed the new speedo today and here are a few pics of the dash as it now sits. The Sunpro temp gauge is on the list for replacement with a matching Auto Meter, but since it works fine and looks alright, it's a low priority. I've been swapping the gauges over to Auto Meter Traditional Chrome series one by one as I save up for them, and this is the only one left.

New Jeep, only has 11 miles on it! :) The orange light between the volt and oil pressure gauges is the Check Engine light for the Painless Perfect fuel injection system. You can also use it to read codes on the computer.

Switches for the ARB locker and compressor are to the left of the temp and fuel gauges, just under the heat/air knobs.

The steering wheel is from a 78 CJ5 I bought for parts. I like the look. Here you can see the factory clock and tach, this Scrambler came with the Laredo package. I have removed the dash pad and I like it better without it.

    Pathkiller,
I saw another post with a photo of your green CJ5 and have a question.
    http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/show...ne-running-33x9-5x15/page2&highlight=33x10.50

Did you paint the embossed JEEP logo on the front fenders or is that a decal ?
I have a 74 CJ5 and cannot find a decal with the correct font, but your's looks correct.

One other person on this board mentioned that it may need to be painted, and that's my only alternative right now, but I wanted to check with your before I pulled the trigger.
Thanks for any info and GREAT looking rig.

    Mike
