Yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaw! Finally made it out of the shop. Towed Posi to the muffler shop for a complete exhaust system this morning. All I have left to do is fab a new winch mount, do a real bleed on the brakes and install the rear axle shafts. Also need to install the mirrors and the footman loop and the windshield bumps on the hood. I think that's all. I'm sure there's more.

Yup, the fronts are a little longer than the rears. I think the fronts are around 6 1/2" c2c. I plan on making new shackles using some 3/8" flatbar that I have. Those are made out of 1/4" and I think that's too thin for that much length. I'm probably going to add another 1/2" c2c on the fronts. Since the springs are basically flat the shackles don't travel more than 3/4" before the springs go into a negative arch and the shackles begin to move forward. I have miles of droop because of the long shackles.

Looks beautiful John. Cool front fenders! Strange, from the pics it does not look that much longer but I know it is. You probably answered it already but what is the new wheel base?

Not sure if I've said it, but the Jeep turned out great. I think it's really cool that you kept the Dauntless..;)

are your shackles tied together in the middle or are they just 2 flat bars ? I am installing new bushings and thinking of adding more lift / rake to my shackles, I will have to break loose the eyelets from the frame

jzeber: New wheelbase is 94 1/2" The '73 front clip hides the stretch a little. Those fenders look a little familiar to you?

Patrick: Thanks. I love the Dauntless. I feel that it's the best possible engine for a CJ. And now it's fuel injected!

cj5/442: These shackles aren't tied in the middle, but the next ones will be. I think it becomes more important the longer they get.

I got to drive it about 100' from the towbar to the muffler shop bay. Running right off the manifolds without the O2 sensor so you can imagine, it was a little rough. But tomorow I'll get to spend some time letting it tune itself in. And by the way, thanks Warloch for all the help getting this Powerjection unit set up. Not only is your write-up a great resource, but the flurry of PM's that you responded to really helped keep me on it. Can't wait to drive it! Guess it's almost time to change my signature.

Got everything but the nice weather here. It snowed here all day today. 5th biggest winter in the last 60 years for snowfall. There's so much snow still it may be well into June before any of the local trails are open.

Patience, Grasshopper. I made it a real challenge for the muffler man by putting my aux fuel tank midship. Probably why he didn't finish today.

Well, life is not good. Got the Jeep back from the muffler shop. It's all good, but the Jeep is running like crap. Backfiring through the throttle-body on acceleration and generally running rough. I just spent a couple of hours pulling and reseting the distributor a couple of times, but no deal. I'm getting ready to go find my old distributor and install it to see if I can narrow down the culprit. It sounds like I have leaks at the exhaust manifolds, but I'm leaning toward the possiblity that the noise is timing related. More like incredible pings. Kind of a snapping sound. I'm at a loss right now. I have the HEI dist. set at 6* BTD with the vacumn advance disconnected. I know it's not in 180* out 'cuz I already tried to run it that way and it wouldn't even fire. I'm using the tower just CCW of the terminal where the power and tach connections are for the #1 plug.

Sorry to hear that! How did it run when you pulled it out of the shop? Maybe the muffler guys fried a wire or pulled off a connection? I noticed you said it was "running a little rough" then. Better or worse now?

It's running a smidge better than it was before, but still crappy. I dbl/triple checked the distributor being set at 6*BTD I may put the original distrbtr in tomorrow to see if the HEI is my problem or if it's the Powerjection. It runs like it's an ignition problem.
