    hello everyone!!

a co-worker recently told me about an old Jeep he came across in a barn when he was looking to rent an old farm house. he asked if i was interested in a '65 Tuxedo Park Mark IV. honestly i had never heard of that variant, i assumed it was a dealer package of some sort, akin to a Yenko Camaro or some such. as soon as i got home i researched online, of course finding a wealth of information on this site!!! thank you!!

so far this is what i believe i have a chance to buy; 1965 CJ5A (deduced it not to be a CJ6A), it is light blue in color, with a blue interior, still has the rear wheelhouse pads, no top on at the moment, still column shift and a warn winch. i am going to go look at it this weekend, and take lots of pics and verify the VIN and data plates.

here is the kicker, it is supposedly in great shape, with only 9000 original miles!!

he is asking $1500, i guess i should probably jump on it?

what things should i look for specifically to help determine the potential value?

i'll just have to decide if i want to sell it as is, lightly fix it up, or do a full resto on it???!!!??? decisions decisions!!

any assistance from all the experts here will be greatly respected and appreciated!!

    thanks

First Welcome from Bainbridge Island, WA.

Second where are you from? Rust is one of the biggest problems with old Jeeps. Frame, body, springs, etc. If the Tux parts are all there, I will buy the rear wheelhouse pads from you. R)

Sounds like a great deal... but :uwop:

We like photos of barn finds.

Another question is what are you going to do with the Jeep? If you are into heavy wheeling, buy it and sell it for a profit and get a Jeep for wheeling. But if you like old restored Jeeps you have a chance for a really good start.

    Congratulation on the find.

You're smart not to say just where in Northern California you are just yet! Sounds like you found an even better barn find than I did! Congrats.
Soon as you do make the deal and have it in your driveway, give us some pics and maybe even let us know where you are.

Remember - you just asked a bunch of jeep addicts if you should buy a jeep... Are you NutZ? Of course you should buy it :)

BTW - those of us who have been cut off from buying new toys live vicariously through those that still have money  while they still do.

I just bought a 67 CJ5 and need to get the rest of the money together to get it on the road. I have no immediate plans for resto at the moment, just drive it! With that said that Jeep makes me grin every time I come home and see it sitting under my carport knowing that within a couple months I will be jumping in it to go to my buddys house or to the beach....can't wait!! :)

    ok guys,

went to look at it, somewhat pleased, somewhat confused. the VIN doesn't seem to be corresponding with the VIN decoder???

    VIN; 8322 14949
    Paint; 222
    Trim; 226

    9094.5 miles!!!!

the upholstery is pretty rough, the hubcaps don't look original, but he has 5 of them! the top is up in the rafters, white soft top, looks ok. the tailgate is pretty rough, didn't see any rust through at all, only a bit of surface rust, the bumpers are not original, it has a winch, the alternator and starter have been replaced at least once. he says someone else is going to look at it tonight, thinking he wants around $2500.00 now.

    what do you all think???

8322 is a Tux. Has the Wheel Well pads still. Only missing the chrome front and rear bumpers that i can see. Heater delete plate, oil bath air cleaner, 3-speed on the tree, single stick transfer case shifter, seems mostly intact. the seats need recovered. I would pay that price for it, but i am a sucker for the F-head 134. My suggestion, BUY IT before he jacks the price more. Talk him down if you can. It's worth it to me, that's my .02. What's it worth to you? My Tux was 14728 and registered as a 66. This one was made less than 200 later...always thought it was an early 65 build. What does everyone else think? I would love that rear plate holder!

Looks real good to me, too. That tailgate looks good unless it's dented in as it appears in the one pic which views it from the inside. I'd sell the winch to buy the bumpers and help with the upholstery. I don't see anything but surface rust and, that appears minimal. Bag it, man. Bring it home and join the club. Congrats in advance.

i guess i didn't get a good pic of the tailgate, it's dented in pretty good, maybe an inch or two, looks like a good shop could straighten it though. at 2500 it's a bit out of my budget, i know it is probably worth it to most people however!! at 1500 or less, i would get it for sure. i am going to call him later to see if the "other" interested party has made an offer yet. they have used it on the farm since it was bought in 69, to replace a wrecked flat fender! hasn't been registered since 87 or so. i like it, and think it deserves to be fully restored, since it is so low mileage and in good shape, but not sure if i am the guy???? now, if it was a 65 chevelle Z16!!???
