I'm putting in a rear gas tank into my 1970 cj5. Does anyone out there know the measurements of where the filler neck is located on the passengers side rear quarter? or can they get me some. Thanks, Rob

Which parts are you going to use? Some of the '70-75 filler neck parts are unobtainable today unless you can find a wreck to take them from. If you use parts from the later Jeeps, you can get all the pieces but you'll have to improvise re placement. Mike Boyink shows how he did this on his site: http://boyink.com/cj6/rear-diamond-plate-corners/

I bought a brand new tank for 70-75 CJ. I was able to find the rear filler neck in the classifieds, and bought the filler hose from Morris Off Road brand new. So I finally gathered all my parts and got the tank mounted in the frame with a fabricated skid plate out 1/4" plate. What I'm looking for is the measurements for the location of where the filler neck comes thru the rear filler panel. I know its located on the passenger side above the back up lights. I need a picture of the stock location along with some measurements so I can get it close. I want to drill this hole before I paint the jeep. I have no references due to the fact that I replaced both back filler panels with new pieces.

Timgr, After looking at Boyink's site, I'm not going to come out the side of the body, but rather the back, where the stock location was originally.

These are the original parts that I found in the classifieds:[IMG]

You have the two pieces that are made from unobtainium: the filler neck and the vent tube bulkhead. I can get a picture and some measurements for you tonight or tomorrow morning.

I have a bunch of pictures of my CJ-6 here, if any of them will help: http://www.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/~reese/ResizedJeepIPics/

These are the measurements from my 1971 CJ5. The cutout is a 3" diameter hole. Measuring horizontal from the edge of tailgate opening, the closest edge of the hole is 2 1/2" and the furthest edge is
5 1/2". Measuring vertical up from the bottom edge of the tub, the closest edge of the hole is 7 3/8" and the furthest edge is 10 3/8". The 2 bolt holes for the filler are on the bottom.

Oh my! I've been looking for the vent tube bulkhead for months now and I can't find it. If anybody can help me with that i'll appreciate it.

I've had my Jeep for about 13 years and have looked for one the entire time I've owned it. You can't find them anywhere. I finally just today converted over to later CJ fuel filler and fuel vent hardware.

This is the first pic of the vent tube bulkhead I've ever seen. :)

I used a Ford Ranger filler neck on mine-doesn't look original but works just fine. The vent tube fitting I bought new from Mile High Jeep in Denver-I don't remember who the manufacturer was.
As far as where to mount the filler neck, I'd let the filler hose be your guide. You're adding something that wasn't there originally, so it might not come out in exactly the same place as a stocker.
