    Hi.

I'd like to replace the oil seal between the T-18/dana 20 while it's in the jeep, without removing the entire tranny/tc. Can anyone recommend a basic procedure for doing this? Thanks.

I have the 78 FSM that tells how to remove the transfer case if that would help you.

The transfer case must be removed. Iirc the adapter must come off to remove the seal as it seats in a step in the adapter. Install the new seal facing towards the transmission, install new gasket and adapter. Oh, yea, the transfer case input gear must be removed as well.

Thanks, guys! That's what I was hoping to do...remove the driveshafts (and t/c shifter linkage),support the tranny, disconnect the t/c, then remove the adapter plate...all while leaving the tranny attached to the bellhousing. I just needed confirmation.

So, with the new seal facing the tranny ("spring end" facing tranny, lip facing t/c), this prevents the gear lube from flowing from the tranny into the t/c?

Where's a place where I can buy just this seal? I've gone to Novak, and AA websites, but could not find just the seal, without it being part of a kit.

The lip needs to face the transmission not the transfer case. Yes this is to keep the oil from transferring from the transmission to the transfer case
Contact R&P at 503-557-8911 they normally stock the seal and adapter gasket make sure you tell them if it is a stock adapter or conversion adapter as the gasket is different
