A bad fuel pump wouldn't be the culprit. If the pump were not putting out enough volume to keep up, pulling the choke won't do anything to increase that flow.

Ye-up rebuilt the carb and it runs like new:driving:

What I fiound was the top gasket had dried over the years and was misaligned and was causing a air leak, but the worst thing was one of the jets was stopped up, from all the dirt and rust in the bowl. I don't think that that carb had ever been built since 1978. The kit and clean-up done the trick...:D

    Hope it helps yours also.

    Told you so:D

Really, thanks for reporting back with the actual problem, and the fix---------way too many times in these forums folks seem to forget that others may want to know what the final result was.

    Told you so-----gosh I love that:D

I just troubleshot mine today, turns out my fix was to unscrew the mixture screw on the Solex a bit. It must have evened it out enough to not need the choke. Now I need to figure out why there is still a stumble in the exhaust note.

Yeah if everyone would report back on what they'd found and the fix to correct the problem it would help a lot.

That you had an air leak-----first line of first reply to the thread.

This is one of my pet peeves on a web forum------I mainly come here to learn, and when possible to help others------when someone reports back with the solution to a problem, we all benefit from it.

    P.S., check your PMs.
