I have been having the same thoughts-------I do have a CJ tank, and was thinking of just adding a lower sump to it.

Anybody know if the sump is the only difference??

Should be a lot easier than making an entire tank.

Bigger filler neck is one difference, I doubt the fuel sender matches up either, plus has a vent line setup.

I went out and put a tape measure on the tank in my daughters A1, at the sump it is 10 3/8 inches deep with the rest of the tank being 7 1/2 inches deep. the overall length and width is the same as the tank in my 55.

The A1 tank is taller and the A1 seat frame at the drivers door mount is a little more vertical to allow for the taller tank. The cj seat frame could easily be modified but looking at mine it would be very close and possibly not necessary.

The A1 tank pulls fuel up through a drop tube, not out the bottom like the cj and it has a manual priming pump on top of the tank. The A1 seat frame is a little different and it looks like the seats had a solid bottom, there may be some under seat clearance issues but from looking at mine they would be minor in nature.

The data plate on the A1 shows the tank capacity to be 17 gallons.
