    Hi all,

Well we took out the 58 CJ5 in the snow for the first time in my ownership and first time in a very long time overall, prob 30 years, he performed wonderfully. had the top off, snowing all over, no wipers (need the vacuum hose) and we just tooled around testing some hills and traction and low and high gear etc, no off road yet but plenty of snow on the roads. Amazing how well this thing decelerates in 2nd gear, downhill on slippery slop it just tools along happily. Going uphill in high with 1st or 2nd is totally no problem and low gear is ridiculous!
We're supposed to get 11-14" so I may post some pix tomorrow!

Also, got me an alternator fro Christmas, that upgrade will be sweet..

:stout::stout: Drinking a Brown Dog Ale for Smuttynose (YUM!) and smiling ear to ear...

Congrats man. I hope to be in your situation soon. I can't wait to get this little guy on the road (and off of it for that matter) and see how it does. I know that you must turn a few heads.

Yep, f head 4 cyl single carb, 3 speed, mainly original.

It is really amazing in the snow, totally controllable. I mean I know its a Jeep and all but wow for being 50 years old, those guys knew how to set up 4wd, the thing just tears it up.

And yea with no top and the snow flying we got some enthusiastic thumbs up.

    more tomorrow!

    Matt - Fun, huh?

Done a lot of this and I've always said the F-head will get you a lot of places where a bigger motor won't. You're right, the tightly balanced footprint of a CJ beats all.

Some winters I've been able to run over the snow crust without breaking through. Or over wood roads where snowmobiles have packed the surface. Bummer when you do break through though, and find four feet of snow under you!

Sounds like fun! :) Man, I can't wait to get mine back together.

It's a JEEP - that's the meaning of the word! Just because it's 50 years old doesn't mean it can't kick everything else's butt.

    Keep on Jeepin'! :driving:

The fun continued yesterday, took the kids sledding up the road from ourt place, all the kids there and a few adults were digging the old Willys...when we got back I got myself stuck going sideways across a sloped section of my yard in about a foot of snow, back end slid down the slope, backed up a few feet, back into first, sawed the wheel back and forth in first and off i went. good advice on that trick it gets u out of everything! Used the super low heading up to the back of my yard just to try it out, works great!

What amazes me is how many people want to take that f-head out and replace it with a V-8. Just doesn't compute!wtlw

My only experiance with those tires was on an 88 f250 I used to have, they did really well in ice and snow. Maybe the heavy truck had something to do with it?
