Need a little help with the layout of the hood rest and footman loop on a 71 CJ5 hood. I'm replacing a damaged hood on my 71 (its missing the hood rest part) with a good straight hood from my 66 project. I'm pretty sure the hood rest is closer to the w/s than the footman loop. Any images of your stock 71 setup would be appreciated. I'll post on the classifieds board for the hood rest part.

Also, was a prop rod used for the hood? I had a 71 jeepster Commando that had a prop rod. The 71 Jeepster had an internal latch for the hood. My 71 CJ5 has an internal hood latch. Anyone know when they started using prop rods and internal hood latches on CJ5s? Pics?

    Thanks,
    Keith

'71 had the prop rod and internal latch. Not the best example, I know, but you can make out the prop rod below the front channel support:

No snorkel cutout, no side markers. Also of note, I've seen earlier model hinges that were aligned with pins facing same direction so that the hood could easily be removed by sliding off the pins. My '70 and this '71 example had pins facing inward so that a hinge must be unbolted for hood removal:

These measurements are off my '70, but loops are in the same position as '71:

Thank you for the reply, pictures and measurements. I'll post some pics when I get the Jeep back from having the new hood painted and I add the hood rest parts. Again, I appreciate your input and time. Moved the '71 (w/new Supertop) down to Lawton for the paint work and will rotate the '61 up to Tuttle for the winter. Looking forward to having her inside a garage this winter. Still need to fabricate a prop rod and catch for the '71. The damaged hood from the '71 had the snorkle cutout and single centrally mounted hood catch so I believe it was not the original hood.
