so i have a hole in my radiator. and it is pretty darn corroded in there. i was looking to find another used radiator off of craigslist and i came upon a radiator out of another cj but they guy lets me it comes from a jeep with a four cylinder...

    so my question is

    is there a difference??

    will it cool efficiently??

    thanks, Matt

Are you on a tight budget?
I got a new radiator from autozone for around $189.
    New, Brass, Direct OEM fit.

I'm not really knowledgeable about if a Four cylinder radiator will fit

I don't know, but someone who knew would be interested in the year and equipment of your Jeep.

I suggest you go to one of the online retailers like RockAuto.com and compare numbers. Look up the radiator for your Jeep and look up the radiator for a 4-cylinder Jeep from the '80s.

Assuming your Jeep is from 1972 or later, a radiator from before 1972 will not fit, regardless of what engine it was used with. The only 4-cylinder radiator that might work would be from an '80s Jeep.

I ordered one from Built Tough Radiator, Jefferson GA. 678-382-2101. Sometimes he has them on ebay. I got mine, 4 core for $191.00. Shipping was fast and it was a direct bolt in. His website is www.btr-radiator.com

I would plug the first few leaks until the corrosion is so bad it causes overheating or I got tired of fixing another leak.

What is this jeep used for mostly? I don't know about anyone else, but I would swap to a new or rebuilt just to save the possibility of a cracked head/block down the road. Just a thought....

Kind of hard to beat the price of a new radiator today.

It will be difficult to find a Jeep radiator in good condition, I expect. Go to pick-your-part yards and look at the radiator from a Wrangler if you can find one. I suspect they will be pretty close to the size of a CJ-5 radiator.

New radiators are cheap, when you compare the cost of a new one to having your radiator repaired. We are lucky that the radiator manufacturers still make replacement radiators for our Jeeps.

Most wrangler radiators have plastic top and bottom caps. They get brittle over time and tend to leak. I would stick to a full metal radiator.

I got an aluminum, fully tig welded radiator for mine on ebay a few months ago for 159 shipped if I remember right. Works great on my stock 258.

I agree with Tim here, i was just talking to a radiator guy a few days ago and the price he gave me you could get a new one and save a bunch. He even told me that!!
