    Is the cap vented?

If so, will fluid leak out the vent when you use the remote reservoir (or does the vent get plugged when using the remote reservoir)?

i think its vented...but im guessing others have plugged it..i dont want to do the cap as there is only room for 2 threads...i want more meat...jpflat..i meant front top,,not top front(where the photoshop dot is)..i already have the reservoir from my hyundai,,when i replaced the clutch slave cyl it came with a new one...just need longer hose...so where the dot is good..but beware the vent hole..

When we did my neighbors we put the holes high on the side. His was a dual res, so 2 holes with a single fill line. Works good.

If you can find an M-38 or M-38a1 cap they had a threaded vent on top which would work perfect for that. The caps were thicker in that area IIRC. You could also put some JB weld around the fitting to help keep it from leaking and to support it better as well. Not the best solution but I have seen it work pretty well.

if the system isn't leaking, what's the purpose then ?
shouldn't need to refill unless there is a leak
not being an a$$, just asking.

    There's a couple reasons Jim.
One is to make it easier to top off the brake fluid if you have disc brakes. One is to make bleeding, flushing, etc. much easier without the chance of spilling brake fluid on the paint inside the Jeep. Especially with an engine swap, headers, etc. it can be a real pain to fill the m/c. Mostly for convenience and the ability to tell at a glance if your fluid level is getting low. It also reduces the chance of getting water, dirt, etc. in the m/c or the vent getting plugged up, the brake fluid expanding from heat, and applying the brakes.

    okay
even with my headers and V6, the lid comes off easily with a long extension and socket right down the firewall and thru the headers. A long funnel reaches the master cylinder easily if brake fluid is needed.
Hadn't thought about water crossings; why do you have to constantly add with disc brakes ? I can see as the linings wear down the fluid level would drop ever so slightly.
anyway just curious; haven't ever thought about changing from stock set-up.

You don't have to constantly add fluid with disc brakes but the level does drop as the pads wear and pistons move further out of their bores. I have 4 wheel disc brakes with a small reservoir. A remote reservoir makes it easy to see if the level is dropping too far. The lid on my mc is a real pain in the arse to get to, is always way tight because it's plastic, and a funnel is a bulky extra thing to carry on the trail in an already crowded Jeep.

I swapped mine out with Herm's dual res system, my old one was leaking a little where the pushrod went into it, but I can ship it to ya if you need it for the cap. The Post office $5 boxes are perfect for that kind of stuff. Shoot me an email if you need it. SlpDeprivd@aol.com
