How important is the torque bolt? My jeep only has the black rubber mount and I am replacing it with a new rubber mount but the PO removed the torque. The exhaust system runs along the drivers side of the tranny and does not leave room for the torque bolt and bushings.

Can I move the torque bolt to the passenger side? Not sure if there will be enough room on that side once the tcase and drive shaft are back in?

Can I use just a rubber mount centered under the tranny?

Here is a picture of my new transmission mount in the same location that the PO had it; but it surely doesn't look secure.

That torque mount is important, real important. I would move the muffler to get it in

I was hoping someone would have some input....

I ended up not using the torque bolt and moved the transmission mount to be centered under the transmission. The crossmember does not appear to be orginal either; it doesn't have a mounting spot for the transfercase mount.

Some of the later Early's with V-6 used a mount between the transfer case and the inside side of the frame instead of the cross member. My Daughter's '70 is like that. It bolts to the boss or "arm" if you will of the transfer case then bolts through the side of the frame inside the "C" part.

my 67 came with a t86 which I swapped out for a t14, I had to move the cross member to make such work. I used the torque mount as a refernec to where the cross member should go and when that was done the tranny mount was almost a bolt in, I had to move 2 holes in the middle of the cross member a 1/4 inch and that was it.
