Alright, first off I have to admit my own stupidity by not unlocking the hubs before towing the Jeep, I was in a hurry and totally forgot. I was pulling the Jeep and kept hearing a popping sound every so often. Initially it was worse at the low speeds but later the same. After about 10 miles I finally stopped looked and realized that I should probably unlock the hubs. There was a little burned oil smell and just the smallest amount oozing from the right hub. I'm in SC (for the next two weeks) and still have to pull the Jeep back to TX. What do you think, did I mess it up and will it make it back to TX. Never really thought about having the hubs locked when pulling the Jeep:?

hmmmm.......could be you just slung gear oil up into the hubs, you'll probably not be able to tell until it's torn down for inspection.

Yeah, if the transfer case was in neutral, it should not be any more stressful than driving with the hubs locked. Jeeps did without locking hubs for a long time before the factory offered them ... you don't really "need" them to operate a Jeep under any conditions.

Thanks for all the feedback, I feel a little more confident bringing her home now. Now what the wife will say as far as bringing ANOTHER Jeep home is a whole nother matter, but who ever said one Jeep was enough?:D

Remember, it's always better to ask for fogiveness than to ask for permission!:D
