I am restoring a 1966 CJ-5 (V6). It currently has a plastic glove box. I have been told that Jeep moved to plastic glove boxes sometime in the late 60's or early 70's. Does anyone know if cardboard boxes were still used in 1966? Thanks.

They were still cardboard in 1967 that I'm aware of.

Yup, what they said. My '59's was cardboard before it fell apart and the Daughter's '70 is also cardboard. Plastic is an upgrade unless going for a period correct restoration imho as it doesn't fall apart when it gets wet.

I suppose the next two questions would be "Does anyone reproduce the cardboard glovebox for a full blown restoration?" & "Does it look just like the early factory equipped version?".
Is a non-waterlogged 5-sided cardboard box now on the list of "grail" items for restorers?

Thank you all for the responses. It looks like it was cardboard for sure. I actually was able to find one through Beachwood. It is a NOS AMC replacement box (part number 986245 according to the label).
