Jeep logic...

So this is my Jeep 1970 CJ5 experience so far...

"Hey, there's half a foot of play in the steering wheel... That doesnt sound hard to fix"...
"This drag link sucks... I'll put in a new one, they're cheap"...
"What's that loose wire? Hey the brake switch, simple!"
"Um... Honey I have to rewire the Jeep"...
"Damn rear signals still dont work"
"Um... Honey I have to buy a new alternator"...
"Um... Honey, just wanted to let you know, I ordered $400 worth of new seats for the Jeep... But they have bolsters! They're Safer!"
"Uh oh... Gonna need a new blinker switch"...
"Hey Baby, I picked up new spark plugs today"... *and $200 worth of KC lights...
"Um... Honey I have to buy new brake lines"...

Long story short... Brake lights still dont work, still have play in the steering wheel, signals still dont work, still gotta replace the brake lines. I'm in the exact same place I was $1000 ago...

I just traded my 1998 Ford Contour for a 78 CJ-5, I had to install new brake lines and several other items like fuel filter, plugs, wires, etc.

I have the exact same issues with the rear lights. Face it AMC was really cheap on light fixtures for these Jeeps. The best start is at the bulbs. Using the right bulbs makes all the difference.


Being able to recogonize future problems and taking care of them before they take care of themselves is one of the keys.

Example:

I lifted the hood on my 78 and noticed that about five of my vacum lines were missing, one of which was the vacum advance. This is a sure sign that some idiot with half a clue had his hands under the hood. Vacum is so very very very very very very very very very very important. Yes it's that important.

I call this type of repairs shade tree engineering.

There are two ways of repairing a vehicle!

1.Do it right the first time.
2.Half-A** it just to get by.

Ill buy that. Also, stock lights are kinda a bummer. Prett easy to hole saw and run trailer led lights, recessed mounting. Happy volt chasing.
