Anybody know how to fix the leak at the speedometer cable ?
It's passing through the speedo gear housing and dripping out of the threaded part on the cable end.
I've read many posts on the web, But no pics or fixes.
I'm not sure if there is a worn or missing seal/gasket or O-Ring.
Any help would be great....... Thanks

I made a flat rubber gasket (like on a garden hose) and it sealed mine. You have to have the speedo cable cap tight. I also put an "O" ring under the driven gear housing (the one that screws into the "T" case) and it works for me.

That works on the later speedo driven gears that are a solid/smooth shaft. The earlier ones have a spiral groove in the speedo driven gear where the seal needs to ride. If your driven gear is smooth then it is a good way to go.

I like Walt's approach. I use sealer on the speedo "sleeve" on where it threads into the output housing. An o-ring or gasket like Walt did should work quite well between the speedo cable housing and sleeve.

I bow to Nickmil's superior knowledge on this. If mine leaks this is what I would do.

Hey, Thank you all for the great info.
I put a flat seal between the sleeve and cable, And no more leak.
I'm not too familiar with these early CJ's,
I've been into the 76-86 CJ's for the last 20 years or so,
    Until I bought the Camper.
I'm getting ready to marry the 5 back up to the Camper very soon.
I'll be sure to start a thread when it's complete.
    Thanks again
