I swore to myself that I would never build another heep, but secretly wanted to build a Willys and was sorta looking for one every now and then... Welp, contract work 1000 miles from home has seemed to come through for me. I found one this morning on CL. 500 for a 42 Willys <interesting>. Knowing it was most likely an MB I went to look at it. Sure enough, a 42 Willys MB sat in front of me. Complete minus air cleaner and some other various bits. 6V system still intact, frame in good shape, and out of curiosity I looked at the rear of the tub. Willys stamped right next to the taillight. The deal was sealed for 500 right then and there.

Now then, I know the scripted GPWs are rare, but how rare is the stamped Willys?? Reason I ask... I wanted to build something from the ground up and "maybe" use the frame and whatnot (mainly just the serial number). I've got the 4.3 lined up, an SM465 back home, Dana 300 sitting in the corner, etc. But is this a rare find? I don't want to screw up something that's relatively hard to find and would be worth a lot more than just any other Willys if put back stock. Someone please try and school me a little more on the older iron.

Oh, and if anyone lives in Sioux Falls.... I could use a little garage space for a bit.

Yes, more than likely a slat grill if it is a '42 and a script tub is a nice plus that is pretty rare to find. I'm sure the jeep gods would smile down on you if you didn't hack something like that up. But X3 on the pics and check out www.g503.com

Hmm... still there with all privacy taken down. Might as well start up a photo account anyway. I'm soo behind the times.

Looks like I'll be towing from South Dakota to Georgia (yay??) two weekends from now to let my pops start the tear down process. Won't really get any new pics until then. The ones that I have now aren't anything special at all. You can't really see anything of importance. I'll edit this once I get things put together.

uh, that looks a bit solid to cut up yo.... If you have a complete and original drivetrain with sold tub and chassis, don't be surprised someone with an english or french accent asking you to crate the thing for 5-10x what you paid for.

    Ask on the G. www.g503.com/forums

My guess is that it's quite special, and valuable.

Seems like you really don't want this Jeep to be something special... :?

A script willys tub is worth tons. The are very rare and the repops dont mean anything to any collector. An orginal will always be worth many times more than a repop.

Alright... since it is now in my posession. Some diappointments, but all in all it's par for the course. First off, I finally got a picture of the willys stamp (yay!!)

Unfortunately, I also got pictures of other things I wanted to check out:

The head shows it to be a late 44-45 mb,
    [IMG]

Wheels, while KH, are not original,
    [IMG]

Original seats are long gone... no split in the middle,
    [IMG]

And it still has some sort of VW gas tank (is this possibly worth anything??)

These pics didn't come out: hubs show later mb, the fire extenguisher mount IS on the inside passenger side.

I didn't check for the exhaust flange (forgot). Nor did I look for serial / casting numbers (really stupid huh??) If you can spot anything else to narrow down years I am all ears. Right now it looks like I've got an early body on later running gear. Just like every other project. It's always a jumble of years and parts. Nothing is ever simple.
