I am trying to replace my Fuel sending unit in my 1972 CJ5 (232 engine), standard 15 gal tank.

I have yet to try and drop the tank, I am just trying to get an understanding of what to expect when I do.

I only count 3 nuts holding the tank, is this correct? It seems like a very small amount to hold the tank up if you ask me.

    Thanks four your help.

That sounds right. One in the front center and one each at both rear corners. I think it's the same as my '71. The bolts are fairly easy to access after the skid plate is off. Jockeying the tank between the frame rails might be tricky though. I replaced my worn out rubber bushings with poly bushings also.

Yes, I just did this on my '72cj5. one bolt in the back and two by the bumper. There should also be some rubber isolators between frame and tank. Make sure you remove as much of the fuel as you can. It is pretty straight forward.

Here are a few shots of my '72: http://www.pbase.com/astevecali/1972_jeep_cj5&page=1
