Can someone with a 76-86 CJ take a measurement from center to center of their windshield wiper pivots (thats where the wiper arm attaches)? I have a 75 CJ5 that has a broken short wiper motor link, missing long wiper pivot and want to figure out what the length difference is between the 75 and 76. I am having a difficult time getting anyone parting out a 75 to get back to me on parts and cannot find new for my year. if anyone knows the length difference or happens to have these parts for a 75 CJ5 alying around and would like to get rid of them feel free to pipe up on the matter :D.

You are the man! Thank you for the link, I thought I was on that site last night but I did not see that. I bought this Jeep for my 15 year old daughter for $1500. It needs a few little things like this.

Looking at the pictures it looks like they cut and welded up the links. This is what I was thinking of doing if the 76-86 stuff was longer. There is a ton of stuff out there for the 76-86 but not so much for the 68-75 it seems. I did get an email back from a guy parting a 75, hopefully he is reasonable in what he wants for the parts.

I still would not mind knowing the center to center distance of the 76-86 model year.

I don't have a '76 windshield, but I can tell you the measurements of the '75 factory linkage if that's helpful.

I purchased a set of linkages from George awhile back. Real good guy, he has a machinist cut and weld the links from a '76 up to fit. They fit perfectly and were here very quickly. Give him a call and he'll set you up.:v6:

Just in case this is what you were thinking - AFAIK you cannot mix parts from the two types of windshields. Even if you shorten/lengthen the links, the pivots and bushings are not the same between them. Again, AFAIK. Someone posted about this here previously. As I understand it, George takes everything from the '76-up windshield and modifies it to fit, and that only works if you use the whole assembly.

You are correct. They have different size bushings.

Great info guys, thank you. This is the kind of info that makes a little job turn into a frustrating one. I have a line on all the 76-86 parts cheap or all the 75 parts for $85. I have more time than $$ at the moment so I think I will pick up the 76^ parts and re work them. Thanks again.
