pertronix 1548 green tape?

am i supposed to remove the green tape on the magnet wheel that came with my pertronix?
i dont wanna screw it up!

i guess i will try it with the tape on and hope nothing bad happens.
the pertronix website says nothing about tape and neither does any thing on the web i have seen after a 1 1/2 hour search.
it looks like it is holding the small magnets in there.

the only reason i wanted a quick answer was i wanted to take the jeep to work today.

 

Electrically it won't make a difference, unless it causes clearance problems. Make sure it does not prevent grounding of something that should not be grounded (before you remove it). I'd try it with, and wait for a response from Pertronix.

 

x2 on finding out for sure from them. i would think it is there to keep any metalic material from collecting on the sensor during storage shipping etc.

 

There was no tape when I installed mine, it might have been for shipping purposes.

i put it in the slug.
it seemed to help.
