I'm betting you haven't ground far enough into the "C". Can you post a pic? It can be kind of difficult to find the "crack" where the tube and the "C" meet. You have to get past the weld penetration between the two and it sometimes is a ways into the "C".

I left my camera at home or I would have posted a pic. I'm going to bring it and some thin wheels with me tomorrow. I'm going to use a grinding disk to get the weld bead out of the way then use a cutting disk to dig into the C a bit.

I know it doesn't help now but a plasma cutter can easily melt the bead right out without cutting into the tube or C. Carbon arc will do almost the same thing just a little messier and a whole lot louder. Thats why I narrow up full width axles so I can melt the welds, cut off the tube at the C, stick em in the press and pop the c off the remaining slug, clean up the tube and weld em back on.

Yeah, you're going to have to go deeper into the C. You've got to get past the weld penetration, that's the hard part.

I was waiting to finish grinding and I need a couple odd ball u-bolts for the diff side

Wow. That is a lot of grinding right there. The C is seems harder than the tube. Is that right?

Where are you hitting the C to break it loose? from the pic it looks like you've hit it to try and slide it off the tube, instead try and hit the top and bottom of the C to rotate it around the tube.

That's what I have been doing. I hit it a couple times as if sliding it off the tube just to see if a crack would appear. I'm using a 8lb sledge so it leaves a mark.

Hit the C so it tries to spin on the tube instead

That is what I was doing. I hit like a thousand times that way and 5 times the other way. The photo just happen to show the 5 dings. The top photo actually shows where I have been banging on the long end of the C.
