transmission options for V6

    If the '69 V6 came with the T14, will a T-90 bolt in place or what transmission is a better one to put behind it without modification?

    Different (shorter) input shaft on the T90. The only straight bolt in better than the T14 would be the factory T18 setup, but you would have to get the drive shafts and trans mount from the same donor Jeep.

    SM420 goes on unless you've got the '70-'71 one-piece bellhousing. Use a Novak adapter to mate it to the Spicer 18. SM420 input is 1-1/8, 10-spline. I forget what the T-14 is. You'll at least need a new cutch disc as well.

    V6 t14 (1 1/8"-10 spline) clutch will work fine with the sm420.

    Yes, but I assumed "without modification" meant no aftermarket adapters.

    Come on, Patrick. We all know NOTHING goes in without modification!!! R)

    It's got that wierd 1-3/16x10-spline output shaft. I can't think of a tranny other than another T14 that would just bolt in.

    Like I said the factory configured T18 will bolt in...But you need the drive shafts and floor pan/ tranny cover from the same Jeep, if it's to be done without modification...

    I thought the 4 sp option in 69 was a t98. never heard of a factory V6 CJ with a T18, but then I never heard of alot of things

    Don't forget the T-case input gear and input shaft. T-18s are 6-spline, not 10-spline like the T-14. Lotsa work for a "bolt-in".

    It was all bolt in for me. Use the gear that was already on the trans. from the factory. It isn't a lot of work. It all bolts in your T14 equipped Jeep just like it did at the factory.

    The T18 is the 4 speed option for the V6.

    Just to clarify, AFAIK the T18 was available with the V6 only in 1971. It's the same close ratio (4.02:1 1st) T18 that was offered with the inline 6s in CJ5s and CJ7s in '72-76. The T-98 was available with the F134, from when I don't know through 1971. Patrick's T18 was swapped in, IIRC, from a 1971 donor. Not a lot of the V6/T18 combo Jeeps were built, so it's not surprising that most ECJ5ers would not have heard of them.

    Yes.
    So it is an option for a straight bolt in transmission, if one can be found. I happened to find a running '71 CJ5 V6 T18 for $600.

    I seem to recall some guy who had a factory T-18 in his 1968 CJ-5.
    The Jeep was a factory Ottowa backhoe conversion.

    I vote t-15. Narry a problem once I got rid of the 71 cast aluminum bellhousing.

    My brother got a brand new close ratio T-18 and all the factory adapters from a Jeep dealer for his 68 V-6 CJ-5. This was in Corvallis, OR in the early 70's
