    Here goes:

    1. What was the first year of the "oh $hit" bar on the dash?
    2. looking at the picture was this light combo orginall? Doesnt seem so, but this is a one owner and it looks like it was factory mounted ( I know that doesn't me anything)
    3. Does anyone have a really good picture of a 100% Original 55' Dash

    Thanks in advance

There was never a light combo like that from the factory. In '55 I think the stock tail lights would have been the Hall version, but originals are made of unobtainium now.

There are repros out there now, and they are a decent copy although they are not made as well as the originals. Try Walcks, Kaiser-Willys, etc.

A drawing in the manual shows the early model with a dash handle. It appears to have the early speedo, has the plate on the passenger side floor and a foot rest apparently. It's not a photograph though so I can't say how accurate it is.

I was just wondering cause the dash I took out of a 63 had the handle, but the original dash in my 55 does not even have the holes for one

My '55 didn't have the handle holes either but the bar is in the owner's manual-

Thanks, so I guess it would have been optional that year maybe?? It does not really matter that much this is not a 100 point resto

I wonder if it's on the option list. Even in the '70s, these Jeeps came through with plugs in those holes, and the grab bar was a dealer-installed accessory. I vaguely recall that it was added to the option list in 1974 or 1975; that it, it could be delivered with the Jeep.

Your lower lights are obviously boat trailer lights - a common replacement for the originals. (At least, obvious to me and should be obvious to enthusiasts).

Thanks for the info Tim, the uppers are going to come off, and I will be replacing the lowers when I can find something as original as possible. Thanks again!

Peter Debella Jeep parts has some repros for $15 each. They are NOT exact originals. The black cans are square instead of cone shaped like the originals. But they are the exact same lens size as the originals and fit in the original holes and have wiring like the originals. I havnt tried but the lenses might be interchangable with originals. They are held into the black housing by the same retainer as the originals. Mine show a 1970 date on the lens and body so they were probably some kind of dealer repair part back in the day.

I have one on my CJ5 on one side and an original on the other side and they look good. Two would look better and only the real purist would notice. They are well made.

So you have some choices. Peter Debella at $30/pair or Walcks at about double that (but the Walcks are much closer to the original shape of the black housing). It depends on how close you want to go to original.

The passenger safety rail (PSR ) was an option for the 1955 CJ-5 and the 1956 CJ-6 model.
The PSR became a standard item on those CJ's in 1960 or 1961.

This is evidenced in the Universal Parts Lists. ( UPL )
In part this is also evidenced from photos/drawings used in all post 1954 Mechanics Manuals ( MM )
also the Universal Service Manuals ( USM )

It was never a factory option for the spartan CJ-3B.
    However if a CJ-3B was modified at the dealership with a PSR at the time of sale;
that 3B could then be considered to have a PSR as original equipment.
A vehicle is considered new until it leaves the dealership.

This is the best example of the stock tail light set up I've come across. It was off a mid '60's CJ5

The "mid-60's" tail lights shown on that bluish green Jeep above are EXACTLY correct for THAT year, but NOT for a 55. I have an all-original 55 and they are NOT Hall lights, like above. The originals for 55 are made out of a really cheap pot metal that fractures VERY easily, unfortunately. The correct tail lights for a 55 CJ5 were also used on the flat fenders of a few years before. I can get you pictures of whatever you want....just let me know, and it make take a few days. The tail light section on the CJ3B website is spot on. I even have a quote on there concerning the original tail lights, as I have done quite a bit of research on this topic. You can find NOS tail lights for the 55 sometimes on Ebay, but they are rare. The driver side light, with the clear lens for the license plate, is SUPER rare. Just so you know, there is a metal spacer under the driver side light ONLY. As odd as it is, my 55 came originally with ONLY a driver's side light! BTW, my 55 has "punch marks" on the original and unmolested dash where the "Oh Crud Bar" holes would go if drilled/punched, but they were never punched/drilled, so there are just punch marks there. Hit me up if you have any specific questions as to an original 55. Howard E. knows his 55 stuff as well.

I have a mid 60's Tux with the chrome Hall 701 lights but I don't have that extra spacer ring under it? Is it supposed to be there? Where would I look? Tnx.

The Tux had the license plate on the tail gate with it's own light, so no need for the spacer on the driver tailight..
