Dirt in the carb? Had an old ford that did that . Take the top off the carb, clean out the bowl, good to go.

not enough info...what engine etc ?
after it stalls, is fuel present inside the carb when accl pedal is depressed ? (accl pump)
does it act like it's running out of gas (surging) or like turning off the ign switch (immediate)
you've got to give us more details

    Couple ideas:

    Fuel pickup in tank?
Did you replace all the fuel lines, what is condition of the rubber fuel lines?
    Coil heating up?

Sure sounds like coil to me. When it stops--immediately check for coil spark.. Thats pretty definite.. Also if you are running the ballast resistor-- could be that..

I had a similiar situation. I changed the ballast resistor and it ran great.

Did you check your gas tank, there could be crud in it that is clogging the fuel lines/carb.

Check the vent in the gas cap. The next time it runs out of gas quickly remove cap. Then see if runs as it should.

Usually - just stops clean, it's spark and if it slows or sputters to a halt, it's fuel. Just where I would look.

My money in on Ballast Resistor once it's hot or the coil once it's hot.

Where is the ballast resistor located on the engine, what does it look like? Going to start w/ the pump, then coil etc......

Thanks for all of the replies, I guess a mechanically challenged individual should have thought twice about buying a JEEP?:)

First you need to get a Jeep service manual- not a chiltons and start reading. A lot of reading- there is simply no way we can answer the amount of questions that you are going to have. Whatever you do DO NOT TRY TO CRANK IN THE STOP BOLTS ON YOUR FRONT AXLE to reduce your turning radius. Yes it does take forty acres to turn around a Jeep with a 25 front end. the ballast resistor is what gives your coil 8 volts while you are driving as to not burn your points with 12 volts. The outside terminal on your starter sends 12 volts to the coil while starting to increase the spark while cranking. It is usually white, mounted on firewall behind your carb, about 3" long with a wire to each end of it.

Gotta agree with these guys- sounds like the coil. If it were me, I'd replace the coil and the ballast.....

This is one of the reasons we hang out here. Your lack of familiarity of this type vehicle is our challenge to help you learn and enjoy this little beast. Just ask unclebill. At first he was all questions and now he helps with answers and just look at his post count! We enjoy this site with all our members.

You gotta learn somehow, questions work well.
A few weeks back I read an old thread where a member was having similar problems, turned out to be the capacitor. May also check the wire from the dist to the coil.
