Went down to a local shop yesterday to see how much it would cost to reupholster the two front seats. He said it would be around $675.00 to do them and around $1000 if a rear seat was done as well. This seems a little steep to me and makes me lean toward putting new seats in (which I would rather not do). Could anyone tell me how much they have paid for a simple reupholstery job for the two front seats? Note that apart from the actual vinyl, the frames and foam are in great shape.
    Thanks,
    :v6:

    Ben,
I had a quote from a local shop for $275 each (I dont have a rear seat) for my '66. This shop has done restorations on old Mustangs so he knew how to do a nice job. I have not had the work done yet. My foam is in good shape so the seats only need recovering not complete rebuilding.

Also you might want to contact Beechwood Canvas Works in NJ. I have never seen their covers but they claim to have cover sets for the CJ5. YOu would then have to find your own foam and either do the installation or find an installer. A word of caution: be sure to get pictures of the covers to be sure they have the pattern you want. Beechwood does mostly military canvas but they sent me samples of their vinyl and had colors that would work out nicely.

Either way, the prices you have seem way over the top.

I had mine recovered for $150 each about two years ago here in Oklahoma. I went with a marine type covering in gray.

I paid a little under 400 for my front two seats and that was hi at the time but they where done well with new phome etc. They are still like new 8 years later and very comfortable. $675.00 is really high I think.

I agree with everyone else that those prices are high. I paid like $350 in January to have my two front seats rebuilt, frames repainted, and recovered. They were totally toast- new foam and repaired the springs and said he added "a little extra spring" that should make them ride better too. This was with snowmobile vinyl too which is a little more expensive but tougher and obviously holds up to cold temps (I'm from northern MN) much better than regular vinyl. It's a little thicker material so the seams aren't quite ever as tight, but still did a nice job. Duluth Automotive Upholstery is the name of the place.

I paid $413.00 in June of 2005 for the front two seats. I took them the bare frames and a picture of what I wanted.
