got one about to be installed. the fenderwells are a different shape, , the marker light screw holes are in the wrong place, the driver's side has a vent in it like the one in the V6 radiator housing and the braces aren't the same... Oh and the Post Office likes to drill holes all over them to install lights:rofl:

other than those things, looks exactly the same

Thanks for the info. I found a good set in a local junkyard but did not want to go to all the trouble of taking them off if they won't work. Sounds like I need to pass on that idea.

Just make sure they are from an early DJ not one of the later model postal jeeps made in the late seventies and early eighties.

I owned a 79 DJ and the difference was that he signal lights were mounted on top of the fender and had mounting/wiring holes. The side markers are reflectors and will not have the holes for the lights found on later model ECJ5. The side marker lights for a DJ were built in the top mounted signal light.

THe DJ5A had the same grille as the ECJ. AM General pouched the grille out when they installed the 232 6 cylinder in about 72. The DJ retained the short frame like the ECJ throughout the build. I think the fenders would work on the ECJ.

There are also some year model DJs that have fiberglass fenders. I think I read somewhere it was around 75 or 76. FWIW there was also an electric DJ5.

unless you are doing a show restoration, the differences between the early DJ and CJ fenders is insignificant and you would really have to be picky to spot them... like me:rofl:
