Hello everyone. I am new to this site, so I appologize in advance if I am posting this question in the wrong place. I am looking for some help in identifying a Jeep I recently got my hands on.

I just don't know much about earlier Jeeps. I think it is a 70's to early 80's Jeep...possibly a CJ-5...but I don't know. It has round headlights and the front fenders do not stay flat at the front like some of the older Willies Jeep pics I have seen. My fenders round over in the front. The ignition is in the dash and it has a very skinny steering column (about 1-1/2" I would guess). The fuel tank is underneath the drivers seat and the fuel filler neck sticks out of the drivers side of the body directly behind the door opening. It has a V-6 engine in it with a V6 insignia on the side of the body. It is a 3 speed transmission. It has no top or doors and has no hinges for doors, although there is evidence of velcro strips and snap fasteners for attaching doors and a cover I assume. The rear tail gate is hinged at the bottom with chain hooks at the sides.

It has a tag on the firewall, within the engine compartment on the dirvers side and this is how it reads:

    Kaiser Jeep Corporation
    8305 S 239236
    Toledo, Ohio

Is this enough info for you guys to help me figure out what I have? I have no title for it as it was a junked vehicle in a field. Most of the body is shot except for the hood and grill. The engine looked complete and the frame seems to be in good shape, although the transmission is locked up I believe. I had to remove the drive shaft to get it to roll.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    DD

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it. I'll check out that PDF to see what I can discover. I'm sure I'll be back with tons of questions down the road. I see you guys are scattered around the US. I hail from Cool Ridge, WV.

I went to the PDF and found some help. It is definitely between a mid year 1967 model and a 1971. It is classed as a CJ-5 Universal Open Body....but my 6 digit serial isn't referenced, so I have no idea exactly what year it is. I'll search into the engine and frame coding when I get a chance to see if I can narrow down the exact year for when I start ordering parts for it. WHen I get a chance, I'll take some pics and post them for you guys to see. That might help ID it a little quicker.

    I appreciate the help.

    Thanks,

    DD

It's a '67, pretty easy to narrow it down using that PDF like I did. SN's are just sequential, so all I did was bracket it with the next lower and highest numbers, both of them being identified as 1967s.

Thanks Sparky. I appreciate your help in narrowing it down.

I'll try to take some pictures of it this evening if it'll quit raining long enough, then I'll try to figure out how to post them. It's in rough shape. Most of the body is going to have to be replaced, but the hood, grill and windshield frame look to be usable. Most all of the flooring is gone. There are no seats in it either. The engine didn't look bad at all and seemed complete, but who knows about it's guts until you crack into it. Same thing with the differentials. The frame looked to be in pretty good shape too. I think that the transmission may be shot. It's locked up. I couldn't budge the shifter lever and had to take the drive shaft loose to be able to tow it across the field it was in. As far as I can tell, it's also had atleast 3 different paint colors on it too.

I'm pretty excited about working on it. My wife isn't because I already have a '69 Corvette that I am working on too. Thanks again for the help.
