Fuel tank and parts vendor?

I'm trying to locate a tank, filler tube, skidplate and mounting hardware for a 73 cj. While several sources have tanks witht the statement of requires OEM skid plate, I can't seem to find one.

Currently my CJ has a fuel cell where the back seat used to be, I would really like to return the fuel tank to the stock location, and replace the backseat.

I recently asked the same question. If you go with a plastic tank there is only one manufacturer MTS, I suggest you purchase direct and not from one of the many vendors. They will also be able to provide you with any additional components you may require. Also try http://www.jeepdoc.com, as far as I've found they have great service and prices.

I haven't been a jeep owner all that long, however I'm starting to get the feeling that parts for a 76 and newer jeep are far more easier to come by.

While I'm sure many can be made to work, I haven't got the feel for what can, and what won't yet.

 

I recall someone here used a skid plate from a Trooper II? If you can't find the OEM skid plate, that or a later skid plate might be workable options.

Yes indeed. The intermediates have comparatively poor parts support. You just have to be more resourceful. Most of the service parts for the drivetrain are still readily available, but things like skid plates, heater cables, battery boxes, etc. have no aftermarket support.
