OK.....so i've got some round, tube like pieces welded to the rear corner of my 67 pile-o-5 that i understand are for the old fashioned soft top bows. What i'm wondering is should i cut them off to make for a cleaner look and ease of putting on corner protection OR is there something really cool that could be fabbed that utilizes these things. They've got to be handy for something. Any ideas?????

When I added my corner guards I just notched them so they would fit around those mounts. I thought about cutting them, but just couldn't...all my newer Jeep friends always ask what they are used for. I am sure you could make up some sort of cargo rack that slide into them and then pinned through the bottom, or find an old top and bows.

I thought about the cargo rack idea also, but got to wondering if those tubes would be strong enough to hold the weight of rack and cargo together. Would be pretty cool if it would!

How about some kind of tent like uprights? You know something for tailgating or lunch on the trails?

How about a couple of the bicycle flags? You can tell everyone those are your markers for when you get into DEEP mud...

...seriously.. I wouldn't put a LOT of weight on them (under 200 lbs). But they would be great for an extended sunshade, taurp hookup (for lunch or tailgating), maybe an umbrella/sunshade holder???? Uprights for putting a big sign on the back? Make a rig that holds your fishing pole...

I was thinking about hanging a hammock off one but I'm not sure it'd hold the larger me these days. Maybe if I welded it on better?

maybe a flag holder, a piece of pipe bent about thirty degrees and then the flag pole, it'd be great for a parade or such.

Hanger for exhaust-powered margarita blender. Splice a Greddy turbo to an old blender, route some flexible exhaust pipe, add ice tequila and mix...

That could make for an interesting situation with my leaky gas cans on the back.

I know, I know. But removing them wouldn't allow me to make stupid comments. R)

    Mount for a 30 cal???

If you use them for fishing poles make sure they can't bounce loose. I'd hate to lose one on the road.

They might work good for a place to connect one end of the bungee cords too.

Hey, I've got a better one... Take the ice cream maker the one guy had from his PTO and set up with a blender as well. Mounted to the old top connectors you could put the blender or a hot fudge container???? also powered by the PTO!!!!!!

If you're adding corner-panel guards anyway, you could reinforce them by notching the corner-panel guards for clearance and then welding a cut section of tubing to the corner-panel guards. If you use the right sized tubing, that would make those things pretty damn strong.

First thing that popped into my mind (aside from the vase idea R) ) was a place to mount spotlights/worklights.
