    Hi Folks,

I am attempting to connect the parking brake for my '67 vert. It is complicated by having allowed myself to be talked into a 2" and 2.5" exhaust pipe when I had new exhaust installed. Today's first question deals w/ the handle mounting bracket.

To my obviously factory made bracket someone has welded a plate that is approximately 2.5" x 5". The effect is to move the entire bracket about 3.5" deeper into the under dash area.

As this "new" bracket assembly has paint that appears to be original, or at least of that age, I at first thot it to be a factory mod, and maybe it is. Perhaps Kaiser had a bunch of brackets from another model and adapted it to fit the Jeepster? The parts manual does not show this plate extension, however. Any ideas out there? Anyone else have such an extension welded to your handle bracket?

Another issue is the length of the cable. I removed an original appearing cable that was 68 1/4 inches in length. None of the suppliers I have looked at has this same length. My convertible (dubbed the Cutester) has the T-86 w/ the remote control shifter. The parts manual does not seem to specify a cable for this particular application. I purchased one for the 3 spd manual and it was too short. The one for the automatic (70.5 inches, I believe) is longer than what I removed. (But probably still too short to work around my new exhaust.)

Any information that might help me finally have a parking brake after a year and a half of ownership will be greatly appreciated.

    there's a 68-1/8" cable listed for your application, P/N 946129
either way, you'll probably have to have the cable made.

That "someone" was the Kaiser Jeep Corporation. I thought the same thing first time I looked at mine.
Search the threads- someone covered this a few months ago.

Check with Jeepdog Jeepster Parts Dude on the cable but you may end up with having to get one custom made if the exhaust is in the way. And yes they did use the emerg brake handle without the bracket on other models.

Thanks for the info, guys. I did search the threads before posting, but found nothing in three attempts. Guess I failed to hold my tongue just right.

Pack Rat, from which model/yr is the picture? It is nice to know my suspicion was correct. And thanks for the suggestion of Don Fletcher. I did buy my cables from him, as well as a number of other items. Great guy! Jim, where did you find the part number for the cable to fit the remote control shifter? I checked the parts manual - no such thing.

    Jeep parts manual
it didn't specifically say it's for the remote shifter
    it lists it by length
since it's close to what you gave, I figured it had to be the one.

Yes, I wasn't going to get too worked up about an eighth or a quarter of an inch.

That is similar, but not the same, I think. (My manual is the CD version and not currently loaded.) The variety of cables listed is a bit confusing. I get the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder; auto and stick; transmission brake and not; but there are more than twice as many cables as would seem to be needed.

any one here use the jeepster dude's complete wiring kit? if so, does it work pretty well ? - i think i may have to get that, mine at the moment looks like a birds nest under the hood, all kind of stuff that's hooked up, and then not hooked up.

Krage Motorsports (jeepdoc.com) has parking brake cables new in stock. I got one there last year and it was exact match to the old one. But the better fix is a hand brake from a cherokee. Involves cutting a small hole in floor and tack welding it in. Disconnect rear portion of brake cables from torque arm (bolted to crossmember) and connect to new hand brake. Really that easy almost. Sorry no pics since jeepster is not here with me. Holds much better than under dash lever. Get creative and use 2 levers for turning brakes????

Most any year, 86 - 97. Got mine from u wrench it. Side cutters to cut cable, screwdriver for 4 sheet metal screws, and yank it out of caulked hole. I think I used my foot to knock off console.
